Marlink and Tampnet have signed a partner agreement for the delivery of offshore Long Term Evolution (LTE) based services in the North Sea. Intertek Provides Oil Condition Monitoring for Britannia
Intertek’s Farnborough laboratory is supporting P&O Cruises’ new flagship Britannia by providing independent oil condition monitoring (OCM) services which monitor the condition of Britannia’s engines and other oil lubricated systems. Britannia, the largest cruise ship designed exclusively for British holiday market, set sail from Southampton last month to fulfill a busy timetable of Mediterranean cruisers which does not allow for unexpected engine and machinery repairs or time out of service.

FVF Chenega Completes Sea Trials with MTU Engines
Over the past several months, FVF Chenega, a high-speed car ferry in the Alaska Marine Highway System (AMHS) fleet, was repowered with four new MTU Series 4000 engines. In April, the project was completed with two days of successful sea trials in Seattle. Engineers from MTU America Inc., a Rolls-Royce Power Systems company, along with members of the Chenega’s crew and other AMHS representatives ran the ship through a series of extensive performance and endurance tests on Puget Sound.

German propulsion specialist SCHOTTEL said it will showcase propulsion solutions with the focus on offshore-applications and hybrid concepts at Nor-Shipping 2015. The SRP 3000 PTI is a hybrid propulsion system consisting of a mechanical Rudderpropeller (1,900 kW) and a PTI mounted on the above-water gearbox opposite the power input. The PTI is an electric motor which provides 460 kW for maneuvering and transit when the diesel engine is switched off.
