The U.K.’s largest independent safety supplier Ocean Safety has delivered a full safety inventory to the new workboat for Svitzer UK, as part of their ongoing contract to supply and support the U.K. fleet. The new workboat Svitzer Leven is currently undergoing sea trials and will be based and operating on the Tees. The workboat, which will be used to collect marine wastage from ships calling at the port, has been manufactured in Southampton by Southampton Marine Services Ltd. at Ocean Quay.

Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal and International Shipholding Corp. President Erik L. Johnsen announced the company will relocate its corporate headquarters from Mobile, Ala., to New Orleans, where the business was founded in 1947. Listed on the New York Stock Exchange as ISH, the company owns and operates a global fleet of waterborne cargo vessels. ISH recorded annual revenue of more than $310 million in its just concluded 2013 fiscal year.

UMW Orders another Jackup Rig from Keppel

Keppel FELS Limited, a subsidiary of Keppel Offshore & Marine Ltd (Keppel O&M), has secured a contract from UMW Drilling 8 Ltd, a wholly-owned subsidiary of UMW Oil & Gas Corporation Sdn. Bhd., for a KFELS B Class jackup rig worth $218 million (USD). It will be the third KFELS B Class jackup rig for UMW Oil & Gas and is scheduled for delivery in 3Q 2015. The first jackup - UMW NAGA 4 - was delivered in February 2013 and the second - UMW NAGA 5 - is expected to be completed by 2Q 2014.

In their financial statement for the first half ended 31, December 2013, Asia-Pacific offshore AHTS/OSV owners CH Offshore recorded profit after income tax of US$14.099-million, which was 26.8% lower than the profit after income tax of US$19.25 million for the previous corresponding first half ended 31 December 2012 . Panama Canal Extension Contractors Deny Halting Work

The Spanish building company, Sacyr, leading the expansion project on the Panama Canal has denied that work at the waterway has been halted despite word to the contrary by the Panama Canal Authority (ACP) reports BBC News. The Panama Canal Authority and the building companies involved are engaged in a dispute over who should foot $1.6bn (£1bn) in extra costs. Citing remarks by president of Sacyr, Manuel Manrique, BBC News report that no date had been set for construction work to stop.
DP World 2013 Container Volumes Continued to Grow

Dubai-based DP World reports that container volumes continued to grow In 2013 with a stronger second half performance across all regions. DP World Limited handled 55 million TEU (twenty-foot equivalent units) across its global portfolio of container terminals during 2013, with gross container volumes growing by 0.7% on a like-for-like 1 basis. The second half of the year delivered a stronger performance with volumes growing 3.6% on the prior period on a like-for-like basis.

BAE Systems announce that Tom Arseneault has been appointed chief operating officer (COO) of BAE Systems, Inc., the U.S. subsidiary of BAE Systems plc.
