At an extraordinary board meeting in Scania the board of Scania – excluding Martin Winterkorn, Hans Dieter Pötsch, Francisco J. Garcia Sanz, Leif Östling and Ferdinand K. Piëch – has decided to appoint an independent committee, consisting of the board members Åsa Thunman (chairman of the committee), Peter Wallenberg Jr, Peter Abele, Johan Järvklo and Håkan Thurfjell to evaluate the offer by Volkswagen and to take such resolutions in relation to the offer as are necessary.

A series of economic cooperation agreements have been reached by Chinese mainland and Taiwan at a recent meeting, reports Xinhua. The mainland's Association for Relations Across the Taiwan Straits and its counterpart in Taiwan have concluded their two day's talk in South China's Hunan city. The two have agreed open new ship routes across the strait and to symplify customs procedure for commercially efficient transportation.

Cummins Inc. inform it has named Jim Schacht General Manager for the Commercial Marine Business. Working in close cooperation with the Cummins distributor network, Schacht will be responsible for all commercial marine business activities for the Engine Business Unit (EBU) globally, including business development and support. He will be located in Columbus, Indiana and will report directly to Ed Pence, Vice President of the High Horsepower Engine Business.
Korea Shipbuilder Wins Order for 8 Very Large Gas Carriers

Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering Co Ltd (DSME) has won two orders worth a total of US$640-million to build eight very large gas carriers (VLGCs) for two unidentified Asia-based firms reports Reuters. The South Korean shipbuilder said in a statement both firms had ordered four gas carriers each, all expected delivery to be completed by the second half of 2016. In related news, DSME recently issued the following listing for investors showing its 2014 orders and backlog.

Platinum Yacht Repair, the yacht repair and maintenance arm of Dubai's Drydocks World & Maritime World, say they have converted the landing craft Al Hail 1, belonging to Dubai-based M/S Royal Yachts from naval to civilan use as floating yacht repair and maintenance facility. The 54-metre vessel arrived at the Platinum Yacht Repair facility at Dubai Maritime City in June 2013 to undergo the necessary extensive modification and refit.

CAMAC Contracts FPSO for Offshore Nigeria

CAMAC Energy Inc. announced that a long-term contract has been signed for the floating production storage and offloading vessel (FPSO) Armada Perdana. The contract provides for an initial term of five years beginning January 1, 2014, with an automatic extension for an additional two years unless terminated by CAMAC with prior notice. The company plans to utilize the FPSO for its multiyear, high-impact development and production operations in Nigeria.

The Panama Canal Authority (ACP) said that Grupo Unidos por el Canal. S.A. (GUPC) has resumed work on the new locks project during the afternoon of Thursday, February 20. “Works have restarted this afternoon,” said Panama Canal Administrator Jorge L. Quijano. Since works have resumed, ACP will proceed to pay tomorrow GUPC the $36.8 million due for December invoices. This preliminary agreement to resume works does not imply a negotiation on the alleged cost overruns claimed by the contractor.
