Crowley Maritime Corporation recently presented U.S. Merchant Marine Academy (USMMA) Midshipman Kevin Berto with the Maritime Security Enhancement Award during the Academy’s award convocation. Berto received the award, which was established by Crowley in 2003, in recognition of his strong interest in a port, maritime or transportation security career and high grade point average both in class and at sea as a cadet. Berto is a logistics and intermodal transportation major from Lake Forrest, Ill.

The bulk of the Costa Concordia cruise liner that capsised off the Tuscany coast in 2012, killing 32 people, will be demolished and scrapped in the port of Genoa, the Italian government decided on Monday. The decision for the work to be done in Genoa, in northern Italy, followed a choice last month by Costa Cruises for a consortium including oil services company Saipem and Genoa-based companies Mariotti and San Giorgio.
Fendercare Opens Expanded Great Yarmouth Base

On Friday, June 20, Fendercare Marine opened the doors of its Great Yarmouth base to showcase its expansion of lifting products and services over the last two years. The Fendercare Marine Equipment and Lifting Services Open Day was attended by an array of existing and new customers, as well as members of the local Great Yarmouth community. Guests could views displays of marine equipment products, lifting equipment, rope splicing demonstrations, working at height equipment and load monitoring.

SiVance, LLC, a subsidiary of Milliken & Company, today unveiled SiVance C1008 Curative, a new silicone curative that aims to improve the durable flexibility of epoxy polysiloxane protective topcoats in marine and infrastructure applications, without sacrificing weatherability. SiVance said the development of this new curative technology solves a major challenge common to epoxy polysiloxanes: brittleness and cracking that can develop over time as the coating cures.

At the end of May 2014, Batumi State Maritime Academy (BSMA) and Transas Marine Black Sea signed a contract for supply and installation of the Transas Full Mission Offshore simulator. The simulator complex will be one of the most advanced in the Black Sea region. The full mission Transas offshore simulator with 270 degrees visualization is based on the Transas NTPRO 5000 software and will be used for training in dynamic positioning operations.

Germany's closely held Meyer Werft and the Finnish government are nearing a deal to buy the Turku shipyard in southwestern Finland from STX Europe , the Finnish economy ministry said on Monday. STX Europe belongs to Korean STX. The Turku shipyard specialises in building cruise ships and has suffered from a lack of orders in recent years. STX said last year it was looking to sell some of its shipyards.
