The U.S. pressed China to implement structural reforms in its exchange rate and to modify its "aggressive behaviour" in disputed waters during a preliminary round of bilateral talks, senior U.S. officials said. The United States, led by U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry and Treasury Secretary Jack Lew, will also push China this week to resume cooperation on fighting cyber espionage and return to dialogue on internet issues, a senior U.S. official said.
Djibouti, DP World in Legal Spat

Djibouti said it had started legal action against DP World, seeking to rescind the Dubai-owned port operator's concession in Africa's largest container terminal in a row over how the contract was awarded. "The resulting agreement unfairly favoured DP World," the government said in a statement, which questioned payments made in winning the concession in 2000. DP World said it rejected Djibouti's allegations.

L-3 Marine Systems International (L-3 MSI) announced today the promotion of Armin Groth and Maik Stoevhase to managing directors of its L-3 SAM Electronics business. As managing directors, Groth and Stoevhase report to Ulrich Weinreuter, president of L-3 MSI. Having worked in the maritime industry for more than 24 years, Groth joined L-3 SAM Electronics in 2006 as managing director of its STN Schiffselektrik subsidiary before he took over SAM’s Integrated Systems business in 2009.

The National Transportation Safety Board’s (NTSB) investigation into the allision of passenger vessel Seastreak Wall Street with Pier 11, Lower Manhattan, New York early last year has led the board to issue a safety alert regarding stairway hazards during docking and undocking. Of the 331 people on board when the vessel allided with the dock on January 9, 2013, 79 passengers and one crewmember were injured, four of them seriously.

ClassNK and Transas Marine Limited today signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in area of classification of maritime simulators. According to the agreement, ClassNK and Transas will jointly develop new standards, rules, procedures and guidelines related to classification of maritime simulators. The North Europe Service 1 (NE-1) run by shipowners ZIM Integrated Shipping Services and MSC Mediterranean Shipping Company is a liner service linking Hamburg weekly with Israel via the Mediterranean. Chile's state oil company ENAP has signed long-term deal with British Gas to import shale gas from the United States at the end of next year, local media reported. Shipments will leave from a U.S. port, Chilean Energy Minister Maximo Pacheco was quoted as saying on Monday in newspaper La Tercera's Tuesday edition. "Among the first gas shipments to leave from that port will be gas destined for Chile," Pacheco said. The deal's volumes and prices were not revealed.
