Carnival Extends Deal with Port of New Orleans

The Port of New Orleans and Carnival Cruise Lines signed a new agreement that will keep the world’s largest cruise line sailing at least two ships year-round from New Orleans through 2019. The new agreement supersedes a 2013 three-year extension and offers three one-year options that could guarantee Carnival homeports at least two ships of equal or greater size than the Dream Class and Fantasy Class ships sailing from the Port today through 2022. The new agreement began July 1, 2014.
Lakes Iron Ore Trade Down 17% at Midyear

The Lake Carriers' Association reported that iron ore shipments on the Great Lakes total 19.2 million tons through the end of June, a 17 percent decrease from a year ago and the trade’s long-term average. Higher water levels have not been able to offset the interminable delays suffered during the winter of 2013/2014. Shipments from U.S. ports through the second quarter stand at 16.8 million tons, a decrease of nearly 19 percent compared to a year ago.
Ivory Coast Increases Budget on Higher Cocoa, Gas, Port Revenues
Ivory Coast has increased its 2014 budget by nearly 4 percent on expectations of higher earnings from cocoa, natural gas and the country's ports, a government spokesman announced on Wednesday.

With West Coast longshoremen still negotiating a new contract, retailers are bringing holiday merchandise into the United States at record levels to protect against potential supply chain disruptions, according to the monthly Global Port Tracker report released today by the National Retail Federation (NRF) and Hackett Associates. Import volume at major U.S. container ports is expected to total 1.5 million containers this month.

Incat Crowther today announced the launch of Amaroo, a 24-meter Catamaran Whale Watching vessel for Amaroo Cruises of Forster, New South Wales, who recently celebrated 35 years in operation. Built by Aluminium Marine in Queensland, Amaroo is the third Incat Crowther-designed vessel for the operator.
