Saudi Shipper Bahri Names Omar as CEO
The National Shipping Company of Saudi Arabia (Bahri) has named Ibrahim Abdulrahman al-Omar as its chief executive, effective on Oct. 1, a bourse filing said on Wednesday. Omar has worked in several senior positions at firms including Saudi Telecom and its affiliate Viva Bahrain, the statement added. He replaces Mohammad Omair al-Otaibi, who was appointed acting CEO last month after the departure of Saleh bin Nasser al-Jasser at the end of July.

Offshore Oil Drilling Market to Suffer through 2015
A sluggish offshore drilling market could deteriorate further next year due to weak demand and a flood of new vessels, even though a few places such as Mexico and Brazil remain promising for exploration, industry executives said on Wednesday. Rig rates have fallen sharply over the past 18 months as oil companies cut capital spending, saving cash for dividends, just as dozens of brand new offshore rigs ordered during the boom times hit the seas, creating overcapacity.
New Clues Discovered in Australian AE1 Search
The Australian Defense Force (ADF) confirmed that a number of contacts of interest were discovered during the search for lost 1914 submarine AE1 by HMAS Yarra in the Duke of York Islands, Papua New Guinea. The contacts were located during the search for HMAS AE1 conducted between September 6-9. According to the ADF, a number of contacts were able to be classified as natural objects; however, one contact remains unidentified and will require further investigation.
Great Lakes Coal Down 18% in August
Coal shipments on the Great Lakes totaled 2.6 million tons in August, a decrease of 18 percent compared to a year ago. Loadings also trailed the month’s long-term average by nearly 19 percent. Offshore ship manager PROMAR recently marked a milestone with the sideways launch into the Danube of the first of its two Damen PSV 3300s on order. On delivery in February 2015, the Swiss company believes the 80-metre Mamola Reliance will give them a valuable competitive edge in the West African oil and gas market.
