North Sea Forties crude differentials firmed on Tuesday as traders eyed two potential VLCC shipments to Asia, though gains were capped as the first cargo of Libyan crude was set to load since a deal with rebels to reopen ports. Traders have been watching the progress of two VLCCs - the BW Utah and the Phoenix Vanguard, both of which have been in the frame for arbitrage shipments of Forties to South Korea.
Zamakona to Build Tug for HPC
Haifa Port Company (HPC) has awarded the international tender for a new build Voith Schneider tug to Zamakona Yards. HPC has tendered a tug which is a sister vessel of the ones already operating in the harbor. The tug has 70 t bollard pull and 31,50 m length by 12,50 m beam. The design has been done by Voith Design, optimizing the hull shape and including some improvements required by the Client. Classification will be Loyd’s Register, and the notation includes also FIFI 1 with water spay.

The Nairobi International Convention on the Removal Wrecks will enter into force on April 14, 2015 following the deposit, on April 14, 2014, of an instrument of ratification by Denmark, with the International Maritime Organization (IMO). Foss Meets Growing Modular Business with New Barge
Foss Maritime is building a new ocean-going barge that will give the company an additional asset to transport large modules both domestically and internationally. The new vessel will be Jones Act qualified. Its anticipated maiden voyage from South Korea to Alaska's rugged North Slope will take place in 2015. The 360-foot long by 120-foot wide by 20-foot deep barge will soon be under construction in the Portland, OR shipyard of Gunderson Marine. Delivery is expected in late 2014.
