Shearer Group Continues to Expand
The Shearer Group, Inc. (TSGI) announced the continued expansion of its naval architecture and marine engineer practice near Houston. Over the past year the company has made five new additions: Joshua Sebastian, P.E., Engineer Manager; Michael Capitain, Naval Architect; Ronald P. Sikora, Designer; Jacqueline Ellis, Designer; and Jo Ann Pitzer, Administrative Assistant. Joshua Sebastian graduated in 1999 from the U.S. Coast Guard Academy with a degree in Naval Architecture/Marine Engineering.
Madelaine-D 2502 Delivered to Argosy Barge Lines
Argosy Barge Lines, LLC of Bellaire, Texas, accepted the Madelaine-D 2502 as the newest addition to their fleet in March 2013. The ABS-classed deck barge was built by Sterling Shipyard of Port Neches, Texas. The barge was designed by Bristol Harbor Group, Inc. (BHGI) of Bristol Rhode Island, and construction of the vessel was overseen by BHGI’s sister company, The Shearer Group, Inc., of Houston, Texas. Madelaine-D 2502, named after Mrs. Madelaine D.
Navy Game Solicits Innovative Solutions

New Zealand’s Q-West to Build High-speed Ferry
As with most island nations, New Zealand is heavily dependent on ferries. By this time next year, there will be a new ferry added to the Auckland-based Fullers Group fleet. NOAA Reports Sustained Seafood Levels
An annual report released by NOAA stated U.S. commercial fishermen landed 9.6 billion pounds of fish and shellfish in 2012, valued at $5.1 billion, according to Fisheries of the United States 2012. The value and pounds of fish and shellfish caught remain higher than the average for the previous ten years of 9.2 billion pounds and $4.1 billion, although this represents a small decrease from the high level of landings and value in 2011.
Clean Marine’s EGCS First to Operate Inside ECA
MV Balder, equipped with Exhaust Gas Cleaning System (EGCS) from Clean Marine, is reported to be the first vessel in the world to operate this type of system in the U.S. Emission Control Area (ECA). Upon arrival in Baltimore recently, the vessel’s Master sought approval from the coast guard to enter and exit the ECA Zone using High Sulfur Fuel Oil with EGCS, rather than burning the more expensive Low Sulphur Fuel Oil (1% sulfur content).
