Grandweld Wins Crew Boat Contract
Grandweld Shipyards has been awarded a contract to build a 42M Aluminum Crew Boat for Maroos Shipping. Grandweld signed the deal with the renowned provider of integrated shipping, and marine services on the 10th March 2013. The contract follows previous delivery of a 38M Utility Vessel to Maroos Shipping in March 2012. The new 42M Aluminum Crew Boat is based on Grandweld’s existing proven design, and can reach speeds in excess of 25 knots.
Kongsberg Offshore Vessel Simulator for Bibby Ship Management India
Bibby Ship Management India Pvt. Ltd contracted Kongsberg Maritime to deliver a Kongsberg Offshore Vessel Simulator (KOVS) including an upgrade of the customer’s existing Kongsberg Dynamic Positioning (DP) simulator in Mumbai. This extension to the Bibby Training Institute Mumbai represents the first KOVS in India and was commissioned to strengthen Bibby’s ability to conduct advanced training courses for Indian seafarers.
ABB Wins $26m Marine Repeat Order
ABB won a $26m order to supply electrical power and propulsion systems for two next generation ‘Ramform’ vessels, capable of three-dimensional (3D) seismic data acquisition for deep sea resource exploration. The ships will be constructed by Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, and delivered in 2015 to Norway’s Petroleum Geo-Services ASA (PGS), a leading company in marine seismic and reservoir data acquisition, processing and analysis/interpretation services.

Kvichak Marine Industries was awarded a contract to build a self-righting 72’ all-aluminum pilot boat, Astoria, for the Columbia River Bar Pilots (CRBP) of Astoria, OR. The continued success and reliability of the Columbia and Chinook lead CRBP to once again choose Camarc, Ltd., of the U.K. as the designer and Kvichak Marine as the builder for the Astoria. The pilots operate the vessels over the bar at the mouth of the Columbia River.
Coast Guard Responds to South Louisiana Casualty
The Coast Guard is responding to a report of an allision between a tug pushing a barge and a pipeline near Bayou Perot 30 miles south of New Orleans, Tuesday. Coast Guard Sector New Orleans watchstanders received a report that the 47-foot tug Shanon E. Settoon was pushing a 154-foot oil barge when it allided with a pipeline 6 p.m., Tuesday. All crew members were able to exit the tug; the captain reportedly suffered second to third-degree degree burns.
