Konecranes Wins Follow-up Order from Brazilian Shipyard
In June 2013 Konecranes received a further order from Brazilian shipyard Estaleiro Enseada do Paraguaçu – EEP. The high-tech portal jib crane is scheduled to be taken into operation in August 2014. The order follows up the Konecranes Goliath gantry crane that the same customer ordered in March 2013. The parties have agreed not to disclose the value of the order, but the price for this type of crane typically is in the range of $6-8 million, depending on the exact scope of delivery.

Mightiest STS Konecranes Yet Ordered for Port of Houston
Super Post-Panamax STS (Ship-to-Shore) cranes ordered by the Port of Houston Authority will be the biggest STS ever manufatured by Konecranes. The order includes four Super Post Panamax STS (Ship-to-Shore) cranes and three RTG (Rubber Tired Gantry) cranes. The STS cranes will be shipped to to PHA’s Barbours Cut Terminal in late 2014 and supplied during the first quarter of 2015, while the RTGs will be delivered to Bayport Terminal in spring 2014.
Egypt Turmoil May Threaten Suez Canal
Growing turmoil in Egypt is threatening to disrupt shipments through the Suez Canal and increase the costs for shipping lines as Cairo’s cash-strapped government seeks ways of bringing in revenue, reports Arab News citing a Reuters report. The Suez Canal Authority has said it may offer discounts or rebates to increase traffic through the canal, but a security source considered it unlikely they will be able to act on it given the growing political and bureaucratic chaos internally.
