Bourbon Orders MacGregor Subsea Crane
MacGregor, part of Cargotec, has won an order for a 150-ton active heave-compensated (AHC) subsea crane from leading offshore oil and gas marine services specialist, Bourbon. This builds on a contract that was secured at the end of 2007 from the operator for ten similar cranes. This crane will be delivered in August 2014 and is, as per nine of the previous orders, for a Bourbon Evolution 800 multi-purpose support vessel under construction at Zhejiang Shipyard, in China.

China Shipyard to Build Wallenius Post-Panamax Ro-Ro's
Wallenius Lines has contracted with Xingang Shipyard in China for two Post Panamax car-carriers for delivery in 2015 and 2016. The vessels will be 200 m long with a beam width of 36.5 m and a car carrying capacity equivalent to 8,000 cars. A combination of large capacity, optimized hull design and a number of energy saving features is intended to ensure the efficient operation and low environmental impact of these vessels.
MOL Comfort Still Afloat in Two Parts
Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, Ltd. (MOL) updates the status of the containership 'MOL Comfort' as of 18:00 Dubai time on June 25, 2013. The owners inform that the fore part is located near 15'43"N 69'07"E. The aft part is drifting near 14'03"N 65'30"E in an east-northeast direction. The weather at the site is still adverse. Some of the containers were lost, but majority of the cargo are confirmed to be aboard the fore and aft part.
Jebel Ali New Terminal Extension Opened, Up & Running

HE Sultan Ahmed Bin Sulayem, Chairman, DP World, officially opened the new extension to Container Terminal 2 (T2) at flagship Jebel Ali Port, welcoming one of the largest container ships afloat, the MSC La Spezia. UK Ports Alarmed by Proximity of New Conservation Zones
There is alarm amongst port authorities about the prospect of Marine Conservation Zones being designated either within or near to port areas when decisions are announced later this year on which sites will receive formal designation. There are currently 31 sites on which a decision will be taken over the coming months, some of which could have a major influence on port traffic. Hi-tech Goggles Help Divers Locate Sandy-downed Structures
During an intense two-day period, Coast Guard diving teams recover downed light towers from East Rockaway Inlet and Jones Beach Inlet. Both lights were destroyed during Hurricane Sandy. The divers used the Dual-Frequency Identification Sonar Diver Held unit, a handheld sonar device connected to a pair of goggles that attach to the diver’s face mask. The unit produces a 3D image with a range of up to 100 feet underwater in zero visibility conditions.

Governor Bobby Jindal has signed legislation that supports Louisiana’s ports by expanding a tax cargo credit for certain port projects. SB 122 — authored by Senator Norby Chabert— modifies the Investor Tax Credit (ITC) and the Import-Export Tax Credit (IETC) by expanding the types of projects that qualify for exemptions. Port of Houston Tonnage and Revenue Up
Tonnage is up this year at the Port of Houston Authority, with container tonnage through May up by 9%, Executive Director Len Waterworth reported at Tuesday's meeting of the Port Commission of the Port of Houston Authority. Waterworth also reported that May operating revenue was at an all-time high of $20 million, up 4% or $800,000. This marked the first time in Port Authority history that operating revenue has exceeded $20 million.
