Minerva and Transas Partner for Paperless Navigation
Transas Hellas has recently agreed with Minerva Marine Inc. to equip its fleet with ECDIS and official charts aiming to shift within a specified timeframe to paperless navigation. In addition to the premium line of Transas ECDIS and Transas Admiralty Data Service TADS (official ENCs), Minerva Marine has decided to deploy additional back up arrangements both for hardware and software, including Transas TX-97 vector charts.

New FloScan Flowmeters Earn ABS Certification
FloScan Instrument Company, Inc. announced that its new Series K Stainless Steel Diesel Flow Sensor has earned ABS Product Design Assessment Certification. Companies operating ABS-Classed vessels will now be able to use FloScan fuel computers, networking components and software applications to reduce operating costs and improve fuel accountability. FloScan is a manufacturer of fuel monitoring systems for permanent installation on diesel and gasoline engines.
Blue Protector Enters Work in the North Sea
The platform supply vessel Blue Protector was delivered from Ulstein Verft on September 23, 2013. The vessel is owned by Blue Ship Invest and managed by Atlantic Offshore. The vessel is going to the spot market in the North Sea. Blue Protector is the final newbuild in a series of six platform supply vessels (PSV) of the PX121 design, and Atlantic Offshore already has the management for two vessels in this series.

Nordic Yards Begins Rescue and Salvage Vessel Builds
Nordic Yards started construction of two ice-breaking rescue and salvage vessels for the Russian Ministry of Transport today. The cutting of the first steel section, which traditionally marks the start of flame-cutting, was celebrated at the Wismar yard in the presence of representatives of the Russian Maritime Register of Shipping (RMRS) classification society. The Russian Ministry of Transport ordered the two multipurpose rescue and salvage vessels from Nordic Yards in December 2012.

Port of Vancouver Begins Building New Rail Entrance
On July 29 the Port of Vancouver USA began phase two construction of one of the most innovative projects in its 100-year-history, the construction of a piling-supported, watertight trench that will support a new grade separated rail entrance into the port. Considered the crown jewel of the West Vancouver Freight Access (WVFA) project, the new entrance will eliminate a chokepoint on the regional rail system and reduce congestion by as much as 40%.

Offshore Solutions Signs North Sea Contract with Maersk Oil UK
Offshore Solutions BV (OSBV), the joint venture between AMEC and Cofely Nederland NV, has signed a North Sea contract with Maersk Oil UK to provide marine access support to the floating production, storage and offloading (FPSO) unit Global Producer III. Located 185 miles north east of Aberdeen, Scotland, OSBV’s Offshore Access System (OAS) will support the shutdown operations for a minimum of 110 days, with options to extend.

Adriatic Marine to Buy 6 Former Abdon Callais OSV's
Raceland, LA-based Adriatic Marine LLC has entered into a contract with Harvey Gladiator LLC, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Harvey Gulf International Marine LLC, for the purchase of six 205’ DP-1 Offshore Supply Vessels (OSVs). The transaction is expected to close in the early fourth quarter of 2013. The purchased vessels are a subset of a larger acquisition by Harvey Gulf of substantially all of the assets of Abdon Callais Offshore LLC.
New Lake Erie Coast Guard Boat on Show
The crew of Coast Guard Station Lorain show their new Response Boat-Medium to press and public at their Lake Erie station. Crew members say they have have been running tests on Lake Erie and have found that the RB-M responds faster than previous boats of similar size, with a top speed in excess of 40 knots. It also is equipped with advanced search capability, including forward-looking infrared search technology. It can handle waves up to 12 feet and can carry as many as 25 people.
Russian Coastguard Quell Greenpeace Arctic Protest
Greenpeace say that Russian authorities are holding 30 of their activists on board the protester's vessel 'Arctic Sunrise' after their attempt to board a Gazprom drilling rig in the Pechora Sea. [The detention] comes after officials from the Russian security service FSB, armed with guns and knives, abruptly stormed the ship using a helicopter and ropes. Once on the ship, they rounded up our activists and ordered them into the mess.
OCV Conversion Contract for Havyard
Havyard Ship Technology has been contracted to convert the offshore construction vessel (OCV) 'Havila Phoenix' for underwater cable laying and trenching operations. Havila Phoenix is a Havyard 858 design, delivered from Havyard’s shipyard in Leirvik as a construction vessel in 2009. Since then the vessel has had different charterers and executed several different operations in connection with subsea oil production installations.
