Interior Officials Convene Safety Meeting
Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement (BSEE) Director James Watson and Acting Assistant Secretary for Lands and Minerals Management Tommy Beaudreau convened a meeting today in Houston, Texas, with senior executives from the offshore oil and gas industry to continue the dialogue on improving safety in offshore operations, particularly in shallow water in the Gulf of Mexico. The meeting follows three loss of well control incidents in shallow water operations since February.

Nine Convicted Over 2007 Greek Cruise Sinking
Multiple news sources have reported that Greek court has convicted nine officers and shipping company officials of negligence in the sinking of a cruise ship off the resort island of Santorini more than six years ago. Sea Diamond, a Louis Hellenic cruise vessel, was carrying roughly 1,600 people when it hit rocks off Santorini’s cliffs and sank in April 2007. Two French passengers were never found and are presumed drowned.

Sophie Mottais-Trouve, the wife of Harkand’s Vice President of Commercial and Strategy Olivier Trouve, opened the festivities by officially naming the 65m vessel. The Harmony’s christening follows two major milestones for the group, Harkand said.
