Begich, Wicker, Schatz Introduce NOAA Corps Amendments Act
U.S. Senators Mark Begich, Roger Wicker (R-MS) and Brian Schatz (D-HI) introduced legislation to strengthen the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s (NOAA) Commissioned Officer Corps as a national asset and improve its ability to recruit and retain talented candidates like other uniformed services. Vestdavit Contracted by USCG for Nine Davits
Vestdavit has won its first contract with the U.S. Coast Guard. After an extensive tender process with many contenders, Vestdavit was chosen to supply nine PLA-2000 davits, the company said. Rapid Underwater Bow Thruster Removal Avoids Drydocking
A Hydrex diver/technician team mobilized to Tacoma, Washington, U.S. last month to remove the bow thruster of a 294-meter container vessel. The unit needed to be overhauled. Hydrex performed the operation underwater in a very short time frame. This made it possible for the owner to keep his vessel out of drydock. Aberdeen-based Hydro Group Plc. a global design and manufacturer of underwater cables and connectors for subsea, underwater, topside and onshore applications, invested £300,000 into research and development in 2012 and has developed the 36kV Dry Mate Hydro Bond Renewable Connector (HRC). 'Mine-Pouncing' is Just What it Says
Members of US Navy's Explosive Ordnance Disposal Mobile Unit (EODMU) 11 participate in a recent mine pouncing training exercise in the Indian Ocean. "Back in the day, they would jump out of a helo near a mine and attach an explosive to it," said Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Technician 2nd Class Ruben Villegas. "They would then get picked up and go on to the next one, then the next one. That's where the term mine pouncing came from."
