New Waterways/Ports funding proposal will create jobs, relieve traffic congestion, increase exports. At its Board of Directors meeting held yesterday in Houston, Waterways Council, Inc.’s Board of Directors unanimously endorsed the American Waterworks Act, proposed in late October by Senator Lamar Alexander (R-TN) and Senator Lindsey Graham (R-SC) to modernize America’s inland waterways and ports.

Port of Hamburg Results: Exports Up, Imports Down

The Port of Hamburg’s overall results for the first nine months characterized by export growth and an import downturn. In the first nine months of 2012 the Port of Hamburg achieved total throughput of 98.1 million tons (down 0.8 percent). General cargo throughput at 69.2 million tons was just ahead of last year’s figure (up 0.2 percent). Bulk cargo throughput at 28.8 million tons stayed behind the previous year’s (down 3.3 percent).

Grandweld Shipyards delievered “Zamil 101” the first of three fast aluminum crew boats to Zamil Offshore. The vessel was part of a contract, which was signed in November 2011, to build and deliver three sister crew boats. The 33.5m fast crew boat is powered by 3 high speed diesel engines driving 3 fixed pitch propellers to produce a speed of 27 Knots. The vessel is designed and built according to the classification rules and requirements of Bureau Veritas for Aluminum vessels.
PMS 1386: First of Two RAstar 3200 Tugs

PM Coast Maritime Pte. Ltd. completed sea trials of PMS 1386, the first of two RAstar 3200 tugs to be built by its own shipyard in Singapore. The RAstar class of tugs is intended for operations in exposed areas such as many new LNG terminals where a high standard of sea-keeping is required. With Fi-Fi 1, oil recovery and escort notations, this particular vessel is able to fulfill a wide variety of duties in adverse conditions.
BV Classes World's Largest Containership

Bureau Veritas has classed what is currently the largest containership in the world. Built by DSME (Daewoo Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering) in South Korea for French operator CMA-CGM, CMA CGM Marco Polo is the first in a series of three 16,000 teu vessels which will each be named after great explorers. The CGM Marco Polo - 396 metres long and 54 metres wide with a draft of 16 metres - is equipped with the latest cutting-edge environmental technology.
