Samsung Heavy Industries Building Two Golar LNG Carriers

Golar LNG Limited announces that the Company has entered into firm contracts with Samsung Heavy Industries Co. Ltd for a further two LNG carriers. The two additional vessels, each with a capacity of 160,000cbm have a combined total cost of slightly above $400 million. The first of the carriers is scheduled for delivery in the second quarter of 2014 and the second in early 2015. Subject to declaration deadlines, each contract also comes with an option for a further carrier for 2015 delivery.
AGA to Supply LNG for Viking Line Ferry

Viking Line Abp has signed an agreement with AGA Gas AB on supplying liquefied natural gas (LNG) for Viking Line’s new passenger ferry. Viking Line’s newbuilding “NB 1376”, recently named the M/S Viking Grace, will provide service on the Stockholm (Sweden) – Åland Islands (Finland) – Turku (Finland) route beginning in January 2013. The vessel, currently under construction at the STX Europe shipyard in Turku, will be Viking Line’s largest passenger ferry and will be powered by LNG.

NORFOLK (NNS) -- The guided-missile destroyer USS McFaul (DDG 74) departed Naval Station Norfolk today on a regularly scheduled deployment to the Arabian Sea to participate in counter-piracy operations. The crew, commanded by Cmdr. Daniel J. Gillen, has been preparing for this deployment since they returned from their last deployment in August 2010. "I have a great crew and we are ready for this deployment," praised Gillen.

MUOS is a next-generation narrowband tactical communications system designed to improve communications for U.S. forces on the move. Huntington Ingalls Industries, Inc. announced that its Newport News Shipbuilding (NNS) division has received a $383 million cost-plus-fixed-fee, level-of-effort contract option to continue planning work for the refueling complex overhaul (RCOH) of the nuclear-powered aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln (CVN 72). If all contract options are exercised, the full value of the contract could reach $678 million. The contract option is for work performed from Feb. 27, 2012, until Feb.

DSME won a new order for three submarines from Indonesia. This contract is the single biggest arms sales deal by a Korean firm and the value of the contract is approximately 1.1 billion dollars with the submarines scheduled to be delivered in the first half of the year of 2018. This contract is comprised of three 1,400 ton class diesel-powered submarines with each one measuring 61.3m from stern to bow with the ability to carry 40 crew.

ASTORIA, Ore. — The Coast Guard is coordinating actions to protect the Oregon Coast from any threat posed by the 648-foot, Singapore-flagged car-carrier Morning Spruce that lost all power and was adrift in 12-foot seas, for approximately 4 ½ hours, southwest of the Columbia River entrance Sunday. At approximately 3:30 p.m., Sunday, the Morning Spruce’s engineer was able to restore the ship’s power.

Star Bulk Carriers Corp. (Nasdaq: SBLK) has entered into an agreement to sell the Star Ypsilon, a 150,940 dwt Capesize vessel, built 1991, to a third party for a contracted sale price of $9.12 million. The Company plans to deliver the vessel to the buyers within March 2012. Also, Star Bulk announced that its subsidiary Star Beta LLC and Deiulemar Shipping S.p.A ("Deiulemar") agreed to settle all claims that were the subject of an ongoing arbitration.

Recently, two Damen Stan Tugs 2608, the Ibrahim 1 and the Jacques, were shipped from the anchorage of Halong Bay, Haiphong (Vietnam) to Casablanca by the Atlantic Winter, an 800t lifting capacity HLV chartered by Danish Heavy Lift carrier Thorco from Reederei Heino Winter. After having taken the necessary preparations and rigging of the lifting gear, both tugs were nicely loaded into their prepositioned cradles on deck in a two day operation. The tugs were ordered by JL Tug and Fedala Tug.
