Vessel Elisalex Schulte to provide bunkering service in the Gulf of Mexico lightering zones. OW Bunker, one of the world's largest suppliers and traders of marine fuels and lubricants, has announced the launch of a new supply vessel in North America; the 2011-built double-hulled Elisalex Schulte, which will operate offshore in the Gulf of Mexico lightering zones. The Elisalex Schulte is a 22,000dwt vessel, which has been taken on a long-term time charter.

Great Lakes Coal Trade Down 11 Percent in October

Shipments of coal on the Great Lakes totaled 2.7 million tons in October, a decrease of 11.6 percent compared to September, and a drop of 11 percent compared to a year ago. Compared to the month’s 5-year average, loadings were down 25.3 percent. Loadings at Lake Superior ports rose by 5.5 percent, but shipments from Lake Michigan and Lake Erie terminals decreased by 33.4 and 26.1 percent respectively. There were no overseas shipments from Superior, Wisconsin, in October.

NYK bulk coal carrier resumes direct shipments to earthquake-damaged port of Haramach. The 90,000 dwt NYK-operated bulk carrier “Haramachimaru” filled with coal has arrived at a dedicated port for a thermal power station operated by Tohoku Electric Power Co. Inc. This was the first arrival of a coal carrier at the berth since the Great East Japan Earthquake last year. Contractor VolkerStevin appoints Mott MacDonald design engineer for deepening, renovation, of two berths in Southampton's Western Docks. Together with other port upgrades, the work for Associated British Ports will increase the terminal’s container throughput capacity by enabling future generation container vessels to access the port at all states of tide. Berths 201 and 202 were originally constructed in 1968 and 1973 respectively as the UK’s first dedicated container berths.
