James A. Watson IV, Director of the Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement (BSEE). Interior Secretary Ken Salazar Named Rear Admiral James A. Watson IV as New Director of the Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement (BSEE) in November of 2011. BSEE was one of the two agencies to succeed the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management, Regulation and Enforcement (BOEMRE) on Oct. 1, 2011. Admiral Watson began as BSEE Director on December 1, 2011, and will succeed Michael R. Bromwich.
Building of First Chinese G-type Engine Confirmed
Shanghai ceremony celebrates signing of contract with CMD. At a recent ceremony in China, CMD (CSSC-MES Diesel Co., Ltd.) held the official signing of the contract to construct the first Chinese-built MAN B&W design Green Series 7G80ME-C9.2 engine. Due for delivery in June 2013, the engine is bound for a 319,000-dwt, ABS class VLCC (Very Large Crude Carrier) to be built by Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. (SWS) for Maran Tankers of Greece.
LLMC Increases – ICS Supports IMO Agreement
The International Chamber of Shipping (ICS), which represents all sectors and trades and over 80% of the global shipping industry, and leads shipowner representation at the International Maritime Organization (IMO) Legal Committee, has expressed strong support for the agreement reached by IMO this week to increase the limits of liability under the Limitation of Liability for Maritime Claims Convention 1996 (LLMC), by 51%.
Aker Solutions Boosting Subsea Capacity
International oil service group Aker Solutions is preparing for major growth by investing NOK 500 million (USD 87 million) in its subsea business. This investment is set to double the capacity of its manufacturing plants in Tranby, Norway, and Port Klang, Malaysia. In addition, a new service base will also be established in Malaysia. The subsea segment of the oil and gas industry is growing rapidly and is expected to develop exponentially over the next few years.

Shipyard Cranes Order for Konecranes
Konecranes has received an order for cranes for a shipyard being built in Baku, Azerbaijan. The order was placed by Baku Shipyard, a joint venture company formed by State Oil Company of Azerbaijan Republic (SOCAR), Keppel Offshore and Marine (KOM), and Azerbaijan Investment Company (AIC). The order comprises one Goliath gantry crane and two portal jib cranes. The cranes will be delivered to the Baku shipyard by 2013.
