DFDS, the Danish shipping company and one of the world's largest ferry operators, recently signed a contract for the construction of two identical RoRo vessels, each to be powered by two MAN B&W 8S40ME-B9 engines with many extra MAN Diesel & Turbo specifications. Maersk’s New Latin American Service Calls on Port of Savannah
Georgia Ports Authority’s (GPA) Executive Director Curtis J. Foltz announced that Maersk has added the Port of Savannah to its newest all-water service, Spondylus. Named for the seashell that once was used as currency for trade by Andeans in Ecuador, the new service will call on Savannah weekly. “We appreciate Maersk’s confidence in our ability to handle its container volume now and in the future,” said Foltz. The service first called on Garden City Terminal on February 23, 2011.

EU NAVFOR Disrupts Suspected Pirate Group
On March 5, an EU NAVFOR aircraft and the EU NAVFOR French warship FS Nivose disrupted a suspected pirate whaler off the Somali coast. The whaler was suspected of leading a Pirate Action Group (PAG) at the time of the incident. On the morning of March 4, a merchant vessel reported being chased by one skiff about 350 Nautical Miles south of Mogadishu. In response, the EU NAVFOR warship FS Nivose was immediately ordered to locate and disrupt the suspected PAG responsible for the incident.
