EU NAVFOR, Italian Navy Rescue Crew of Pirated Vessel
On the morning of March 9, marine authorities received a distress call from the MV Rak Afrikana stating that they were taking on large amounts of water due to what was described as a “hole in the hull.” The vessel had been released from pirate control only hours earlier. The EU NAVFOR warship SPS Canarias was immediately sent to assist the stricken vessel and was later joined by the Italian warship ITS Zeffiro which arrived first and carried out the rescue operation.

Transas Marine has completed modernisation of a Vessel Traffic Management System in Ukraine
Transas Ukraine has modernised an existing Vessel Traffic Management System (VTMS) in the Ukrainian port of Ilyichevsk. The contract was honoured by "Delta-Pilot" – a government establishment responsible for security of shipping in North-West area of the Black Sea. Compliance of the system with the international and Ukrainian requirements has been acknowledged by the Ukrainian Ministry of Transportation and Communications.
Goa’s Casino Royale at Three Years
In 2011 Goa’s most elaborate floating casino will celebrate three years of successful operation on the Indian province’s Mandovi River. The M/V Casino Royale was designed by AMC Marcon of Mumbai and her builder Water Ways Shipyard with the lines of a small cruise ship. The ship has capacity for up to 400 passengers, 35 operational crew and seven professional mariners. The Casino Royale is out-fitted to meet international safety standards for a passenger vessel.

BCGP Delivers Boston Whaler 350 Challenger to Ohio
Brunswick Commercial and Government Products (BCGP) delivered a 350 Challenger to the Lorain County Sheriff’s Department in Ohio, where it will be used to patrol the border between the U.S. and Canada on Lake Erie. The Sheriff’s Department is part of a 58-agency task force known as the Northern Border Initiative (NBI). This task force is funded through federal security grant funds administered by the Ohio Department of Public Safety, Division of Homeland Security.

Utility Boat Sarina Sold to East Coast Operator
Marcon International, Inc. of Coupeville, Washington reported the purchase by a private East Coast operator of the U.S. flag utility boat Sarina (ex-Tern) from Olympic Tug and Barge, Inc. of Seattle, Wash. The vessel was originally built as a U.S. Coast Guard WLI class inland buoy tender in 1969 at CG shipyard in Curtis Bay, Baltimore, Md. and rebuilt in 1994 and 1996 to her present configuration.
