The Yasa Golden Dardanelles became grounded 22 miles off the Galveston coast, Friday, Feb. 20, 2009. Lightering operations commenced Monday afternoon in an effort to refloat the tank ship. An estimated 3.5 million gallons of the tank ship's cargo will be offloaded during the lightering procedure.

Rolls-Royce, the global power systems company, has launched a new waterjet for naval markets. The Kamewa FF67 will be the latest in the FF-series of aluminium waterjets, which are the lightest and most powerful in their power range. The new waterjet, available from late 2009, will also be suitable for commercial marine and offshore markets. Rolls-Royce said the FF67, which will be the most powerful of the FF series, is a new design incorporating built-in hydraulics for the first time.

Northrop Grumman Corporation (NSYE:NOC) has successfully redelivered the Los Angeles-class submarine USS Toledo (SSN 769) to the U.S. Navy. The redelivery took place Feb. 21 following successful sea trials. The ship began its Depot Modernization Period in 2007 at the company's Shipbuilding sector in Newport News, Va. The work included upgrades to the submarine's sonar, combat and weapons systems and maintenance work on the propulsion, auxiliary and habitability systems.
