Crowley's petroleum transportation group recently made history, as its 155,000-barrel ATB, Sea Reliance/550-1, became the largest of its kind to have ever transited Alaskan waters. Under the watchful command of Capt. Scott Murdock, Sea Reliance/550-1 completed a voyage from Martinez, Calif., to Anchorage, Alaska carrying a full load of jet fuel. The journey, which occurred without incident, was met with several weather concerns because of an early start to the winter storm season.

WESMAR Thrusters ABS DP Approval
WESMAR announced that two more of their all stainless steel bow thrusters have been given ABS Certificate of Design Assessment for dynamic positioning (DP) applications. WESMAR Models V2-24 and V2-26 Vortex dual prop all stainless steel bow thrusters have joined the V2-20NS system, which received the design approval rating earlier this year. The horsepower ratings for the V2-24 and V2-26 range from 175 to 225, for operation on vessels up to 225 hp.

Wärtsilä has been awarded two large orders from the Spliethoff Group, headquarted in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. 4000 HP Tug for Brazil Port
The Estaleiro Rio Maguari, a shipyard in the District of Icoaraci in Belem, the capital of the State of Para in the Amazon estuary (See google earth 1 degree 17 minutes South and 48 degrees 26 minutes West) is currently finishing up a 4000 HP Z-drive harbour tug for Hermasa Navegação da Amazônia. The owners are a part of Hermasa a large producer of soya beans with 2.5 million tons exported in 2007. The new tug, named Stefanolocks, is 85.3 ft by 29.2 ft with a molded depth of 15.7 ft.
