Panama Canal Receives Proposals to Build Locks
The Panama Canal Authority (ACP) received proposals from three world-class consortia to design and build the new set of Canal locks – the largest contract under the $5.25b Expansion Program. The proposals have been separated into two categories – technical and price – with the technical proposals to be assessed first. The price proposals were placed into a sealed container, escorted by ACP Contracting Officer Adriano Espino (pictured left) to the Panama National Bank, and locked into a vault.

Costa Deliziosa Completes Her Technical Launch
Costa Cruises, Italian tourism group and European cruise company, and Fincantieri celebrated the technical launch of the Costa Deliziosa at the Marghera yards: the first time the ship touched the sea flooding the dry-dock where she is under construction. Wärtsilä, IHI Marine Propulsion System Agreement
Wärtsilä, ship power system integrator, and IHI Marine United Inc. (IHIMU) of Japan, have concluded a co-operation agreement. Under the agreement, Contra-Rotating Propeller (CRP) systems developed by IHIMU will be incorporated into Wärtsilä's propulsion solutions used on board diesel-electric driven ships. The co-operation agreement mainly covers the European market, where the environmental demands on shipping operations are becoming increasingly stringent.

At the touch of a button, the new, lightweight TECH-1000-2 automated hydraulic davit from Nautical Structures can handle a working load up to 1,000 pounds in all boom positions aboard boats and yachts from 40 to 140 feet. Weighing 165 pounds, the all-aluminum TECH-1000-2 is priced at just under $10,000, complete with mounting standpipe and hydraulic power unit. The TECH-1000-2 features a fully faired and painted finish to match the paint color of the yacht.
Wärtsilä Receives 1st CWA Design Order
Wärtsilä, power system integrator, has signed a design and propulsion system order with Taiwan's Jong Shyn Shipbuilding for a product chemical tanker. The 6500 dwt vessel, due for delivery in 2011, is for CPC Corporation (CPC), a Taiwanese state-owned oil company. This is the first order through the Wärtsilä network for a design developed by Conan Wu Associates (CWA), a Wärtsilä Ship Design company, since it was acquired in September 2008.
