Grandweld Delivers Aluminum Crew Boat
Grandweld Shipyards delievered “Zamil 101” the first of three fast aluminum crew boats to Zamil Offshore. The vessel was part of a contract, which was signed in November 2011, to build and deliver three sister crew boats. The 33.5m fast crew boat is powered by 3 high speed diesel engines driving 3 fixed pitch propellers to produce a speed of 27 Knots. Aberdeen Harbor Welcomes Record-Breaking Vessel
Aberdeen Harbor has welcomed the largest ever vessel to the port after the completion of a £5.2 million program to improve access and deepen the Navigation Channel. Great Lakes Dredge & Dock Corporation (GLDD) gets Wilmington Harbor anchorage basin deepening contract from Army Corps of Engineers. The contract, worth US$16.4-million, is for the deepening of the anchorage basin portion of the existing navigation channel on the Cape Fear River in North Carolina. This project was awarded to by the Army Corps of Engineers Wilmington District and involves the excavation of sand, gravel and rock seabed material.

Seasonal Decline in Water Levels Means Great Lakes Dredging Crisis Will Only Worsen. The water levels on the Great Lakes have begun their seasonal decline, so the impacts of the dredging crisis will become even more pronounced in the fourth quarter. Even before the Lakes began their dip, the largest ships were forfeiting more than 6,200 tons of cargo each trip. Each inch that the Lakes decline in the weeks and months ahead will slash another 50 to 270 tons from the already deflated totals.
BAE Systems Starts Construction on Dump
BAE Systems has begun construction on the first of two dump scows for Great Lakes Dredge & Dock Company. Employees and executives from both companies gathered yesterday for a ceremony to mark the start of construction for the first module, which will weigh approximately 87 tons. When complete, the entire first vessel will weigh about 1,600 tons and measure 295 feet long and 62 feet wide, with a draft of 17 feet.

New Panama Canal Dredger Named in Dutch Shipyard
A backhoe dredger built by IHC Merwede was named ALBERTO ALEMÁN ZUBIETA at its associate's NMC shipyard, in Nieuw- Lekkerland, The Netherlands. The backhoe dredger will initially be used for the expansion of the Panama Canal and subsequently for its maintenance. The vessel was built by IHC Merwede for Autoridad del Canal de Panama (ACP) and was named by Mrs Ana Matilde Alemán, who is the wife of ACP's former CEO, Mr Alberto Alemán Zubieta.
