Port of L.A. Review Proposed Yang Ming Terminal Improvements
The Port of Los Angeles is initiating the environmental review process on a proposed berth-improvement project by Yang Ming, a Taiwanese marine transport company at the Port. The start of the environmental process, which is expected to formally begin this fall with a Notice of Preparation, is the first step in Yang Ming's plan to enhance its terminal facilities and deepen its berth to accommodate 14,000 Twenty Foot Equivalent (TEU) vessels and increase cargo volume.
Port of Houston Records Upward Monthly Revenue
Monthly operating revenue exceeded $20 million again in July 2013. The achievement was high on a list of positives that Executive Director Len Waterworth shared in his report to the Port Commission of the Port of Houston Authority at its recent monthly meeting. Dredging projects have also been put in hand. The Port Authority generated $21 million in July operating revenue, surpassing July 2012's performance by $1.4 million or 7 percent.
Mazda Comes to Port of Baltimore
Mazda North American Operations (MNAO) became the Port of Baltimore newest auto customer after agreeing to a five -year contract with auto processor Amports that will bring approximately 65,000 vehicles a year to Maryland from its assembly plants in Japan. The vehicles will be handled at the Amports-owned Chesapeake Auto Terminal. The addition of Mazda will help to create 450 new jobs, including 160 direct jobs.
LNG Carrier Anchored, Awaiting Dredging at Basin
The berth basin of the Petronet LNG terminal is not deep enough to facilitate the tanker vessel holding the terminal’s first consignment of LNG, forcing the ship to wait in anchorage at the Cochin Port as a navigable route is dredged, multiple news sources reported. The vessel is expected to sit for two or three days as the basin is dredged. The ship, WilEnergy, is carrying LNG from RasGas in Qatar to be delivered to the Rs 4,200 crore terminal.
Boskalis H1 2013 Results Pointing to Record Profit
In their half year 2013 report the Boskalis Board of Management expects that, barring unforeseen circumstances, net profit for the 2013 financial year will be at least EUR 330 million, including the book gain of approximately EUR 50 million on the sale of the 40% stake in Archirodon that will be accounted for in the second half of the year. Royal Boskalis Westminster N.V. (Boskalis) realized a net profit of EUR 123 million in the first half of 2013 (H1 2012: EUR 102 million).

Panama Canal Authority to Invest Heavily in Maintenance
The Panama Canal Authority (ACP) will invest in its fiscal year (FY) 2014 (October 1, 2013 to September 30, 2014) approximately US$238-million in maintenance of structures and equipment to continue providing an efficient service to the international maritime community. “The key to the Panama Canal’s operational excellence is a combination of its committed workforce and constant maintenance,” Executive Vice President for Operations Esteban Saenz said.
New Kochi, India, LNG Terminal: First Ship Awaiting Entry
The first cargo vessel, carrying liquified gas for the LNG Terminal at Puthuvype from RasGas in Qatar, has arrived off the port, and is anchored until necessary dredging work is completed, reports Business Standard. With the shipment, the Petronet LNG terminal, with an annual capacity of five million tonnes, is all set to commence operations soon. The vessel, carrying about one lakh cubic metre of LNG, is anchored about 20 km off Kochi, port sources informed the Business Standard.

Houston Port Commissioners Approve Bayport Dredge Funding
The Port Commission of the Port of Houston Authority has approved $296,000 in increased funding for maintenance dredging of the Bayport Cruise Terminal.
