100 Years of Dredging Culebra Cut

The Panama Canal commemorates 100 years of dredging Culebra Cut, removing the last barrier during its construction for the free movement of vessels along the 80-kilometer waterway. Following the calendar of activities in the countdown to the centennial, the Panama Canal highlighted the significant role played by dredging to ensure the safe navigation through the waterway, even before its opening 100 years ago.

PRONAUTAS and Jan De Nul Group have announced a new partnership to roll out an ECDIS implementation program on board Jan De Nul vessels. PRONAUTAS will deliver and install Transas Navi-Sailor 4000 ECDIS in Premium configuration with radar overlay. Jan De Nul Group operates a modern and diverse dredging fleet. The fleet includes a number of powerful self-propelled cutter suction dredgers and largest trailing suction hopper dredgers in the world.
Two New Dredge Simulators from Ellicott

After two years of development, Ellicott Dredges announced the startup of two new dredging simulators, one for cutter dredges and one for auger dredges. Both are available for immediate use. These simulators are the most modern dredge simulator systems in North America, and will be used in conjunction with Ellicott's existing dredge training program. Auger dredge training is available at Ellicott’s Wisconsin, U.S. factory.

IHC Merwede has been contracted by Royal Boskalis Westminster (Boskalis) for the design, construction and delivery of a 23,684kW self-propelled cutter suction dredger (CSD) which will be one of the largest CSDs of its kind in the world. The shipbuilders say that as part of the close cooperation and working relationship between Boskalis and IHC Merwede, much attention has been paid to the design of this latest CSD in terms of safety, the environment and increased operational workability.

To be finished in 2015, the $5-billion expansion of the Panama Canal will create a third lane accommodating mega-ships nearly three times larger than previously passable and this may significantly reduce shipping time to Asia. Dutch Van Oord’s first shallow water pipe lay vessel’s infrastructure holds KVM hardware from German Guntermann & Drunck. KVM provides surveyor and chief officer in charge with the computer applications required for the process of laying pipes. A broad range of all sorts of equipment from cranes to welding stations, even a gym and accommodation for up to 300 people is what the Stingray crew calls home.
Significant UK Dredging Project for Boskalis

Royal Boskalis Westminster N.V. (Boskalis) has been contracted by Associated British Ports for the capital dredging of the approach channel to the port of Southampton in the United Kingdom. The contract has a value of approximately EUR 35 million and work is due to commence shortly. The contract requires the deepening of the 40 kilometer long approach channel. A total volume of approximately 3 million cubic meters of hard clay, sand and gravel will be removed over a 12 month period.

Royal Boskalis Westminster N.V. (Boskalis) raises its 2013 net profit outlook to at least EUR 360-million. Boskalis says it has concluded an exceptionally good third quarter. Revenue, adjusted for the sale of the 40% stake in Archirodon, and earnings were higher than in the first and second quarter of 2013 against stable market conditions.
