Marseille Fos Unveils Multimillion Growth Strategy

Port of Houston Expecting Record Year

Damen Builds Tug, Dredger for Nicaragua
The Nicaraguan port authority Empresa Portuaria Nacional (EPN) is set to take delivery of two newbuilds from Damen Shipyards Group. Damen built both vessels, a Damen Stan Tug 2608 and a Cutter Suction Dredger CSD350, at its yards in the Netherlands, and they are completed and underway. Damen Sales Manager Pieter Becker signed the contract for the Stan Tug 2608 on September 2, 2014 during a maritime trade mission to Nicaragua organized by the Netherlands Council for Trade.

Phase 1 Dredging Wraps Up in Redwood City
Phase 1 of maintenance dredging of the Redwood City Harbor and Channel was completed this week, bringing the Port of Redwood City channel to a depth of 28 feet. The $12.8 million project, completed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), will enable ships to operate more efficiently when navigating the Port's channel. Phase 2 of the dredging project to restore the channel to it authorized depth of 30 feet will occur in mid-2015.
Royal IHC Launches Easydredge 2700
Royal IHC (IHC) has launched the first Easydredge 2700, the first vessel in its range of standard trailing suction hopper dredgers (TSHD) to be delivered in summer 2015. The launch took place at the shipyard of IHC's partner, MTG Dolphin, in Varna, Bulgaria. The new vessel will be supplied with a "world-dredging package", which includes bottom doors, a bow coupling and a dredging depth of 25 meters.
Cowes Breakwater Catalyzes Harbor Investment
The main aim of Cowes Harbor Commissionās (CHC) investment into the new Cowes Breakwater was to provide a true sheltered harbor, thereby unlocking its full potential and creating a catalyst for major inward investment and employment generation. The protection provided by the Cowes Breakwater has now enabled the planned marina element of the Cowes Outer Harbor Project (OHP) to move forward. The OHP is a long-standing strategic partnership between CHC and the Homes and Communities Agency (HCA).
Damen Expands Dredge Pump Range
The Damen DOP submersible dredge pump range has been enlarged, now running from the smallest DOP150, fitting in any corner of a building pit, to the DOP450L doing some 4,000 m3 of mixture per hour. The DOP submersible dredge pump is designed to be used in many dredging activities. The main part of the DOP is a dredge pump fitted with cast exchangeable parts. A key feature is the large spherical passage preventing blockage.

Future LNG Exports to Impact Traffic, Tug Requirements
Workboat requirements will soar as heightened safety requirements for LNG transit demand tighter oversight. Song Thu Lays Keel for New Dredger
The construction of a new vessel of dredging fleet, project TSHD 2000, has been launched to the RS class in Da Nang, Vietnam. The keel laying ceremony was held at Song Thu Corporation shipyard November 21, 2014. It was attended by Andrey Tarasenko, General Director of FSUE Rosmorport, and Pavel Shikhov, RS Chief Operating Officer. The ship has been designed by Damen Shipyards Gorinchem. Hamburg Cargo Volumes at Record High
With total throughput of around 110 million tons, the Port of Hamburg set a new record in the first nine months of 2014. Almost all throughput segments contributed to a growth of 5.7 percent. Container handling, which dominates in Hamburg as a universal port, also achieved a record mark of 7.4 million TEU (20-ft standard containers).
