USCG Uses Skiff Ice Boat to Rescue Injured Man
The U.S. Coast Guard medically evacuated a man off of a dredging barge in Lake Erie near Sandusky, Ohio, Wednesday evening. At approximately 5:45 p.m., a good Samaritan called Coast Guard Station Marblehead, Ohio, to report two men on a dredging barge who needed help due to injuries. The barge was 50 yards off shore in water too shallow for a Coast Guard response boat to get to come alongside, so a rescue team traveled to the location by truck.
New Dredged Material Site Proposed in LI Sound
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has proposed to designate a dredged material disposal site to serve the eastern Long Island Sound region. Damen Delivered Charlock’s Dredge Pumps
The state-of-the-art 3,200 m3 Trailing Suction Hopper Dredger (TSHD) Charlock has been equipped with two Damen dredge pumps. One highly innovative semi-axial dredge pump is fitted on the trailing pipe, the other dredge pump is mounted inboard. Both dredge pumps work in series, enabling a highly efficient dredging process. The semi-axial dredge pump is a new addition to the wide Damen dredge pump range.

Royal IHC Upgrades Three CSDs for NMDC
National Marine Dredging Company (NMDC) of Abu Dhabi, a dredging contractor in the Middle East and key player in the creation of the new Suez Canal, has granted Royal IHC an order to upgrade the automation of three heavy-duty cutter suction dredgers (CSDs). The Al Sadr, Al Mirfa and Kattouf were built by Royal IHC between 1999-2001, and were equipped with the then latest versions of IHC DPM (dredge profile monitor) and ACC (automatic cutter controller).

Damen Delivers Modular Dredger to Van Oord
To support its ongoing dredging activities, Van Oord has commenced an 18-month charter agreement with Damen Marine Services for a Modular Multi Cat (MMuC) 2210. Damen completed construction under a short timescale, delivering the vessel just four months after contract signing. The newly built vessel is the first fully classified Damen MMuC to enter service, making Damen Marine Services the launching customer.

Damen Ships Modular Dredger to the Andes
Reservoirs are notoriously tricky to maintain: from the surrounding area plenty of sand and silt is brought in by the river and the material deposits at the dam. As reservoirs are usually rather deep, dredging can be quite a challenge. For the Tablachaca dam in Peru another challenge was added; the location high up in the Andes required a modular dredger due to transport restrictions. The DOP Dredger proved to be the perfect solution, according to its builder.
Dredging Components Delivered for Special Mining Vehicles
Damen Dredging Equipment is well known for its deliveries of standard dredging components. Usually, deliveries of items such as dredge pumps and dredge valves are for hopper dredgers or cutter suction dredgers. Recent deliveries were for a more exotic use: the Damen dredge pumps and valves have been fitted in remote operated deep sea mining vehicles. These deep sea mining vehicles, also called Seafloor Production Tools (SPTs), have been manufactured by Soil Machine Dynamics (SMD).
