Crowley Ramps up Investment in Puerto Rico

Crowley Puerto Rico Services announced an additional $21 million construction contract for improvements and upgrades at its Isla Grande port terminal in San Juan. Sanmar Shipyards in Turkey said it is in the process of shipping a Robert Allan Limited designed Rascal Class ASD tugboat to Port Otago Limited (POL) in New Zealand. The new tug, Arihi, named in consultation with the local Rununga (Maori council), measures 18 m long, has a bollard pull of 30 t and was completed in less than five months from date of order. Arihi will be primarily used by POL in assisting in channel dredging, a task that began in 2015.

Two new landmarks at the Port of Ngqura, which are part of ongoing developments to position the port as a container transhipment hub for Sub-Saharan Africa, were officially launched by Transnet National Ports Authority (TNPA) today. The U.S. Coast Guard medically evacuated a man off of a dredging barge in Lake Erie near Sandusky, Ohio, Wednesday evening. At approximately 5:45 p.m., a good Samaritan called Coast Guard Station Marblehead, Ohio, to report two men on a dredging barge who needed help due to injuries. The barge was 50 yards off shore in water too shallow for a Coast Guard response boat to get to come alongside, so a rescue team traveled to the location by truck.
New Dredged Material Site Proposed in LI Sound

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has proposed to designate a dredged material disposal site to serve the eastern Long Island Sound region. The Eastern Long Island Sound Disposal Site (ELDS) would be located offshore from New London, Conn., and would be available for the disposal of dredged material from harbors and navigation channels in eastern Long Island Sound in the states of Connecticut and New York.
