OTAL Adds Hamburg to West Africa Schedule
On 26 November 2009, the container ship CMA CGM Iguacu called at the Port of Hamburg as part of the expanded sailing schedule for the Nigeria Express liner service operated by the OT Africa Line (OTAL). Hamburg is included for the first time in this liner service, which links the ports of Dakar, Lagos-Apapa, Lagos-Tincan and Abidjan with the European continent. The CMA CGM Iguacu is scheduled to arrive in Lagos on 18 December 2009.

STX Finland Constructs South African Research Vessel
STX Finland Oy and the South African Department of Environmental Affairs has signed a contract for construction of a Polar Supply and Research Vessel. The ship with a value of approximately $173m will bring some 600 man-years of work. The ship will be build in the Rauma shipyard and it will be delivered in spring 2012. The ship will function as a multi-purpose vessel, serving, among other things, as a supply vessel, research vessel, icebreaker, expedition vessel, as well as a passenger ship.

Titan Salvage introduced more than 200 guests to its newest salvage response facility in western Singapore on Oct. 16. The reception celebrated the opening of the 45,000 sq ft, self-contained facility, which will serve as Titan's corporate office in the region. The complex features a fully equipped workshop to service and repair Titan's extensive inventory of salvage equipment, a dedicated diving equipment workshop and specialized storage and equipment handling space.
EU NAVFOR Tracks Hijacked Chinese Bulk Carrier
On October 19 2009 the Bulk Carrier De Xin Hai from the Peoples Republic of China was hijacked in the Indian Ocean, 350 nautical miles North East of the Seychelles and 700 nautical miles off the East coast of Somalia. An EU NAVFOR Maritime Patrol Aircraft, operating from the Seychelles was launched and located the ship and has reported that there are four pirates visible and two skiffs (small pirate craft) being towed by the ship.

Pirate Attacks on the Rise off Somalia
