Jeff Holtom New Seatronics Middle East Manager
Acteon company, Seatronics Ltd., has appointed Jeff Holtom as regional manager in the Middle East. Based in Abu Dhabi, Holtom’s responsibilities at Seatronics Ltd. will include sales and marketing, overall Quality, Health, Safety and Environment (QHSE) responsibility and general and management of the Seatronics office in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). Holtom has a degree in land and hydrographic surveying from North East London Polytechnic, UK.
Dometic Group Announces Global Reorganization
Formerly President of Dometic Marine, Frank Marciano has been appointed President of Dometic Americas for all divisions after Dometic Group announced a global reorganization and restructuring. The new management and business structure was enacted by the company’s global CEO, Roger Johansson, and was effective from February 1. Marciano, who is based at the Marine headquarters in Pompano Beach, Florida, is a 22-year employee of Dometic.

The concept of force majeure has been broadly accepted since mariners initially encountered the perils of the sea. Persons and governments ashore have been obligated, at least by natural law, to accept and succor those in distress at sea. Concomitant with force majeure is the notion of providing a ship in distress with a place or port of refuge. US Navy Plans Smaller Fleet
According to a report to Congress, the Navy is downsizing its goal for the size of its fleet from 313 to 306 ships. The losers are the controversial littoral combat ship line, cut from 55 to 52; large ships, such as destroyers and cruisers, go from 94 to 88 and the four existing guided-missile submarines will not be replaced, reports U-T San Diego. The report adds that the Navy’s move of four destroyers to Rota, Spain, means fewer ships can provide the same overseas presence.

Survey: UK Subsea Companies Set for Bumper 2013
Subsea companies across the UK are set to grow by 20% or more in 2013, with some companies anticipating more than 50% growth. A survey of Subsea UK members revealed that 100% of firms are predicting significant growth in the next 12 months. Almost half expect to grow by 30% and a third by more than 50%. Almost 90% of those surveyed saw turnover and profits rise in 2012 with over half reporting growth of 20% and a fifth reporting more than 50% growth.
