Two Found Dead on "Captain Philips" Ship
According to multiple published reports including Reuters, two U.S. security workers were found dead on the Maersk Alabama, a ship made famous by the Hollywood movie "Captain Phillips" in 2013. MOL Sign Methanol Carrier Deal with AMPCO
Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, Ltd. (MOL) say they have received a newbuilding charter contract for two methanol carriers from Atlantic Methanol Production Company LLC (AMPCO) based on an offer tendered in 2013. The vessels will be built at Minaminippon Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. The ships will operate under a long-term charter and the new contract will play a vital role in MOL's strategy of strengthening long-term business.
Floating Production Market Forecast
Today, 319 oil/gas floating production units are now in service, on order or available for reuse on another field. FPSOs account for 65% of the existing systems, 74% of systems on order. Another 25 floating LNG processing systems are in service or on order. Liquefaction floaters account for 12%, regasification floaters 88%. No liquefaction floaters are yet in service – all three are on order. In addition, 101 floating storage units are in service, on order or available.
WWL Extends Service to South Africa & Australia
Wallenius Wilhelmsen Logistics (WWL) has started the year by introducing a new service departing Santander, Spain twice a month for South Africa and on to Australia. The enhanced product which includes additional capacity and extended port coverage reflects WWL’s ongoing work to extend its services to meet customers’ needs. “WWL is excited to support manufacturer needs for ocean transportation from Spain to South Africa and Oceania”, says Ramon Oliete, Head of Iberia Branch for WWL.

Liebherr Cranes Ordered in South Africa
Liebherr Africa announced the awarding of a contract for the supply of four STS and 18 RTG cranes to Transnet Port Terminals. The order will be fulfilled with the assistance of Liebherr Container Cranes in Ireland. In the last two years, Liebherr delivered nine mobile harbor cranes to Transnet, which brought their fleet to 13. In addition Liebherr Container Cranes Ltd. delivered two ship to shore container cranes to Ngqura Container Terminal in 2012.

ISS Supports Offshore Operations for PGS
Inchcape Shipping Services (ISS) has secured a further nomination from one of their key accounts to support their operations in Sub-Saharan Africa. Building on other recent successes in the region, ISS announced commencement last month of an offshore logistics and support contract for Norwegian-based Petroleum Geo-Services (PGS). Under the five-month contract, ISS will support a seismic survey project to map oil and gas deposits off the East African coast.

ICS Board Prepares for IMO Meeting

DP World 2013 Container Volumes Continued to Grow
Dubai-based DP World reports that container volumes continued to grow In 2013 with a stronger second half performance across all regions. DP World Limited handled 55 million TEU (twenty-foot equivalent units) across its global portfolio of container terminals during 2013, with gross container volumes growing by 0.7% on a like-for-like 1 basis. The second half of the year delivered a stronger performance with volumes growing 3.6% on the prior period on a like-for-like basis.
Aubin and Flexlife Partener for Integrity Solutions
Offshore chemical engineering specialist Aubin Group has formed a cooperation agreement with subsea flexible pipe specialist Flexlife to create an industry first in subsea integrity management (IM). Aubin Integrity, a division of Aubin Group, and Flexlife are working together to provide full-service IM solutions to the oil and gas industry. Under the cooperation, Aubin Integrity will supply its development team to create bespoke products and provide offshore personnel for operations.
