India Maritime Pilots to Train on BMT Simulator
BMT Consultants India (BMT), a subsidiary of BMT Group Ltd, the international maritime design, engineering and risk management consultancy, says it has partnered with Bibby Ship Management to deliver training for marine pilots. Based at Bibbys state of the art training centre at St Xaviers Technical Institute in Mumbai, the new partnership will utilise BMTs REMBRANDT marine manoeuvring simulator.

Fairmount Tows Rig from Brazil to Singapore
Fairmount Marine said it has safely delivered rig ENSCO 5002 in Singapore. The rig was towed from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, via Cape Good Hope, by tug Fairmount Expedition. ENSCO 5002 is a 1975 built 70 meters long and 61 meters wide semisubmersible drilling rig. The rig can accommodate up to 110 persons and is capable to drill up to 10,668 meters. Tug Fairmount Expedition hooked-up with the rig offshore Rio de Janeiro mid-November 2013.

China, South Korea, Subsea Crane Orders for MacGregor
MacGregor, part of Cargotec, informs it has won an order for two subsea cranes from South Korean shipyard Hyundai Heavy Industries and another for one from China’s Wuchang Shipbuilding. The active heave-compensated cranes will have an SWL of 100-tonnes and 25-tonnes respectively. They will be fitted on board a new 160m heavy construction vessel (hull 2654) being built at the yard for global offshore specialist, Subsea 7.

Hijacked Tanker Returns Minus $8M of Diesel
Reuters - An oil tanker hijacked for a week off Angola in January has been returned to the country's authorities, a board member at state oil firm Sonangol said on Tuesday, adding that the hijackers had stolen diesel worth $8 million from the ship. The Liberian-flagged MT Kerala was under a time charter contract for Sonangol when it vanished off the coast of the capital Luanda on Jan. 18 before being intercepted by the Nigerian navy a week later.

Big Growth in Mediterranean Transhipment Business Observed
Virtually all large Mediterranean transhipment hub ports recorded double digit growth in 2013, well above regional and global growth levels, notes the latest edition of Drewry's Container Insight Weekly. Greek Frigate Joins EU Counter Piracy Operation
Hellenic Navy warship, HS Psara joined EU Naval Force Somalia, Operation Atalanta Wednesday, February 20. The Greek Navy frigate left the Salamina Naval Base on Thursday, February 13. HS Psara will be part of the EU’s counter-piracy operation in the Horn of Africa and Western Indian Ocean for a period of three months. The warship previously participated in EU Naval Force between December 2008 to April 2009. HS Psara is a Hydra class frigate and was commissioned into the Greek Navy in 1998.
DP World Invests in London Gateway
The Lord Mayor of the City of London, Fiona Woolf, welcomed the foreign direct investment by Dubai’s DP World into London Gateway, while visiting the recently opened deep-sea container port and Europe’s largest logistics park. During her visit, the Lord Mayor, climbed one of the world’s largest quay cranes to have an elevated view of the massive three square mile site, where work is underway for a Common User Facility and other proposed distribution centers.
