iPad In-App Environments Provide a Wealth of Safety and Assessment Capabilities Capannoli, Italy – NavPlay, an innovative manufacturer of iPad apps for boaters, announced today its full-featured notification system. Comprised of Alarm Manager which notifies boaters through their iPads if preset conditions are met, the Diagnostics environment which checks the status of instruments via a WiFi connection, Safety Life which automatically texts alarms to a mobile phone and AIS compatibility for enhanced situational awareness and collision avoidance, NavPlay’s new notification system provides boaters with a wealth of information to keep them apprised of their situation and avoid problems before they occur.

A user-friendly notification environment, the Alarms Manager allows boaters to define parameters for onboard data and notifies them if a parameter limit is met. NMEA data from various onboard instruments such as wind, depth, GPS and AIS, to name a few, is provided to the NavPlay app via Wifi connectivity. When parameter limits are met, an audible alarm is triggered, a visual alarm appears on the iPad and the event is automatically registered on LogBook for future reference. To use, boaters simply set the alarms and take their iPad with them. Using the Safety Life feature in the Services environment, boaters can leave their iPad onboard and NavPlay will send an SMS text message or email to a user-specified mobile phone to notify them of any alarms while away.

The Diagnostics environment of NavPlay shows the status of instruments by monitoring data transmission through a WiFi connection. This feature gives a complete picture of what is working and not working on a boat’s network. If technical support is required for any instrument onboard that is not functioning properly, NavPlay shows the exact list of NMEA information received making it easy for technicians or support representatives to check errors and troubleshoot issues. Accessed directly in the Navigation environment, users can review detailed AIS target information, and set Closest Point of Approach (CPA) and Time of Closest Point of Approach (TCPA) alarms on their iPad, without the need to manage or change parameters on the AIS unit or chartplotter.

“The NavPlay app is the first of its kind,” said Andrea Buralli, sales and marketing manager, NavPlay. “With tens of millions of iPad users and boaters, we developed NavPlay to tap into the full capacity of the iPad and best utilize the man-machine interface in a way that is familiar to the modern boater. Our notification system lets boaters relax and enjoy their excursions. We remove the burden of a sleepless night on anchor watch and reduce the anxiety of leaving your boat while you go ashore.”
