Next Generation of RAmparts Tugs for SAAM

Chilean maritime services and logistics company SAAM S.A. has signed a contract with naval architecture firm Robert Allan Ltd. for a new generation of RAmparts 2400-W Class tugs.

 

The first two boats for SAAM’s Peruvian affiliate TRAMARSA, named Chincha and Tupac, are now under construction at Wuxi Shipyard in China with others soon to follow.

 

The RAmparts 2400-W Class tugboat is a twin Z-drive, diesel-powered tug, designed for ship-assist and terminal support operations. Ship-handling is performed over the bow using a split drum hawser winch. The compact tugs, which will also provide firefighting capability, include accommodation for a crew of six in two single rooms and two double rooms.

 

The design complies with ABS Requirements for the following notations: +A1, E, +AMS, Towing Vessel, UWILD, Fire-fighting Vessel Class 1.

 

Particulars of the RAmparts 2400-W design are as follows:

Length overall: 24.4 m

Beam, molded: 11.25 m

Depth, molded: 4.37 m

Maximum Draft (to bottom of skeg): 4.17 m

 

Tank Capacities are as follows:

Fuel Capacity: 115 m³

FW Capacity: 25 m³

Ballast Water: 34 m³

 

Robert Allan Ltd. said it also provided a complete structural steel parts package developed from the design drawings prepared for this project. Parts were defined and nested using ShipConstructor software, complete with part identification code, suitable as input to the shipyard’s NC burning code.
