Meyer Werft Begins LNG Cruise Ship Build for AIDA
German shipbuilder Meyer Werft has laid the keel for AIDAnova, set to become the first cruise ship worldwide that will operate both at sea and in port fueled with liquefied natural gas (LNG). With AIDAnova’s first building block lowered into place on September 6, 2017, Carnival Corporation & plc officially marked the start of construction of seven fully LNG powered cruise ships due to be commissioned between 2018 and 2022 for four of its 10 cruise ship brands.

Meyer Werft Plans Norwegian Joy Float-out
The 168,800 gt cruise ship Norwegian Joy currently being built by MEYER WERFT is scheduled to float out of the builder’s covered building dock II on March 4, 2017, pending weather conditions. With the 324-meter-long, 41.4-meter-long-wide ship being berthed at the yard's pier, the remaining work and tests and trials will be carried out in the next few days. Norwegian Joy will travel down the river Ems toward the North Sea, where she will undergo sea trials in the end of March 2017.

Meyer Werft Buys Finland out of Turku Shipyard
Germany's family-owned Meyer Werft shipyard is buying the Finnish state out of Turku shipyard in southwestern Finland, the government said on Wednesday. Meyer Werft and the government last year bought the troubled shipyard from Korean trade and ship corporation STX, with the change of ownership helping the yard to win several orders. Finland, Meyer Werft May Join to Buy Shipyard from STX
The Finnish government said it had teamed up with German shipbuilder Meyer Werft to consider buying a troubled local shipyard from South Korea's STX Offshore & Shipbuilding. The government in 2012 faced heavy criticism for not providing a loan to the Turku shipyard in southern Finland, which contributed to its loss of a 1 billion euro ($1.4 billion) order for cruise ships along with hundreds of potential jobs.

Germany's Meyer Werft Float Out 'Norwegian Getaway'
The 146,600-gt cruise ship 'Norwegian Getaway', whose construction has taken just 12 months, has been floated out of Meyer Werft 's covered building dock II for fitting out after tests in the harbour. The new cruise ship's passage down the River Ems towards the North Sea is scheduled to be in the next few weeks with a mid-Janaury 2014 delivery and the crew are already on board for familiarization. The ship has a length overall of 324 m and is 39.70 m wide.
Meyer Werft Orders More MAN Diesel & Turbo Power
MAN Diesel & Turbo has won the order from Meyer Werft for new cruise vessels for Norwegian Cruise Line to supply its V48/60CR engines with diesel-electric propulsion systems. The ships will be built at Meyer Werft, the cruise liner specialist builder in Papenburg, northern Germany. Norwegian is a longstanding customer of MAN Diesel & Turbo with almost its entire fleet powered by the 48/60 and 58/64 engine types.
