Fincantieri: Work Starts On New Holland America Ship
The steel cutting ceremony of the third ship which Fincantieri is building for Holland America Line, a brand under Carnival Corporation & plc, cruise operator, took place today at the shipyard in Marghera (Venice).The new-build, scheduled for delivery in 2021, will be the seventeenth unit built by Fincantieri for Holland America Line, the third of the “Pinnacle” class, after “Koningsdam” and “Nieuw Statendam”, delivered respectively in March 2016 and November 2018 from the same yard.

U.S.-Flag Cargo Movement Doubled in January
U.S.-flag Great Lakes freighters (lakers) moved 3.1 million tons of cargo in January, an increase of 110 percent compared to a year ago. The January float was also 44 percent above the month’s 5-year average.Iron ore shipments totaled 2.5 million tons, an increase of 84 percent. Coal loadings quadrupled to 137,000 tons. The limestone trade totaled 196,000 tons, an increase of 100 percent.

Nigel Smith, inaugural International Registrar of the London-headquartered St Kitts & Nevis International Ship Registry (SKANReg), is retiring in May after 47 years in the shipping industry.
