Maersk Tankers Opts for Scrubbers
Maersk Tankers announced Friday it has decided to invest in four scrubber systems to be installed on one existing and three newbuild LR2 vessels in the Maersk Product Tanker fleet before January 2020 to comply with the International Maritime Organization’s (IMO) sulphur regulation.The new IMO regulation states that the current global limit for sulphur content in fuel oil used on board vessels will change from 3.50% to a maximum of 0.50% from January 2020.
A Second Z-Tech 6500 Tug for ICDAS
In mid October 2018, ICDAS Turkey completed construction of its second Z-Tech 6500 tug, the KARA YUSUF-2, which will operate in Çanakkale Turkey. After successful construction and operation in 2011 of the ICDAS-19, the first Z-Tech 6500 tug of its fleet, ICDAS decided to build a second one.The deck machinery comprises a hydraulic towing winch DWF 35x130H on the bow, spooled with 200 m of Ø56 tow line. An independent anchor windlass is provided on aft deck.

It seems the U.S. cannot do enough to fast-track the construction of its new icebreaking fleet, as the USCG announce last night that the 150-member crew of the U.S. Coast Guard Cutter Polar Star fought a fire at approximately 9 p.m. PST Feb. 10 that broke out in the ship's incinerator room about 650 miles north of McMurdo Sound, Antarctica.After initial response efforts using four fire extinguishers failed, fire crews spent almost two hours extinguishing the fire.
