OSM Maritime Group says it is aiming to make the shipping industry accessible to all as part of its involvement in the UN Global Compact (UNGC) initiative. The ship management company,has signed a MOU to re-launch the Mozambican Higher School of Nautical Sciences. It is also actively working to increase the number of females in its global pool of 11,000 qualified seafarers. OSM is one of the first companies in the ship management segment to join the UNGC.

Baltic Index Edges Up to One-month High
The Baltic Exchange's main sea freight index, tracking rates for ships carrying dry bulk commodities, crept higher on Wednesday to hit a one-month high, supported by stronger demand for smaller vessels. The overall index, which factors in rates for capesize, panamax, supramax and handysize shipping vessels, was up 4 points, or 0.34 percent, at 1,192 points, a peak since Jan. 29. It gained about 3.5 percent in February and notched the first gain in three months.
Sotzing Joins Sea Machines as Engineering Director
Boston-based developer of autonomous vessel technology Sea Machines Robotics has hired Chris Sotzing as director of engineering. Sotzing will be responsible for the development and deployment of the company’s Sea Machines 300 technology system, as well as managing the engineering team. He reports to COO Jim Daly from the Boston office. Sotzing joins Sea Machines from SeeByte, where he served as an engineering manager supporting unmanned vehicle technologies in Boston.

LNG Carrier Seri Camar Delivered to MISC
MISC Group has taken delivery of the 150,200 CBM liquefied natural gas (LNG) carrier Seri Camar, the fourth in a series of five newbuild MOSS-Type Seri C Class vessels built by Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI). Owned by MISC, the Malaysian-flagged Seri Camar joins sister vessels Seri Cenderawasih, Seri Camellia and Seri Cempaka on long-term charter to PETRONAS.
