Marine Jet Power has been awarded a repeat order to supply waterjets to another 3 units Patrol Killer Experimental (PKX-B) fast attack craft for the Korean Navy. Last year, South Korean shipbuilder Hanjin Heavy Industries and Construction (HHIC) launched the first unit which is currently undergoing sea trials. The propulsion system comprises a MJP 950 single drive and MJP 650 double drive waterjet installation.

New Pilot Boat for the Thames and Medway
Estuary Services Limited (ESL), a joint venture between the Port of London Authority (PLA) and Peel Ports London Medway, is continuing its fleet replacement plan and buying another new pilot boat for its pilot transfer operations serving the ports of London and Medway. ESL currently has a fleet of six vessels including two 17.1 meter ORC class vessels that carry marine pilots from the Kent coast to board ships, in the Thames Estuary.
ABB’s OCTOPUS for Greenland Heavylift Newbuilds
ABB’s OCTOPUS marine software was chosen for four new semi-submersible heavy lift vessels currently under construction at CSBC Corporation in Taiwan, with the first expected to go into service in 2017. The ships, owned by Greenland Heavylift Holdings, will transport gigantic cargoes such as oil rigs and jack-up rigs, with OCTOPUS providing a tailored route for each voyage that is updated with fresh weather data throughout the transportation.
Higher Shipping Rates Boost Baltic Index
The Baltic Exchange's main sea freight index, tracking rates for ships carrying dry bulk commodities, rose on Wednesday due to strengthening rates across all vessel segments. The overall index, which factors in rates for capesize, panamax, supramax and handysize shipping vessels, was up 28 points, or 3.6 percent, at 806 points. The capesize index gained 95 points, or 11.1 percent, to close at 951 points.
