THE Alliance Sets $50 Mln Insolvency Contingency Fund
Remarks from Federal Maritime Commissioner William P. Doyle at the FTR Transportation Conference 2017, Indianapolis, Ind. On September 13, 2017, I voted to expedite the Commission’s decision and support THE Alliance’s amendment authorizing creation of a contingency trust fund designed to protect customers’ cargo and the ocean transportation chain should one of THE Alliance’s carriers experience financial distress or an insolvency event.
Dellner Brakes Acquires Gummi USA
Swedish-based Dellner Brakes has acquired US brake and clutch company Gummi USA to consolidate its position as one of the world’s leading suppliers of brakes and related power transmission products for the industrial, and marine markets. This acquisition, the first in Dellner Brakes’ 50 year history, will enable the company to expand its product offering worldwide and also strengthen the company’s distribution in North and South America.
Parpala Joins The Switch
The Switch has recruited Ville Parpala as Director, Product Marketing, Marine Solutions, as it targets its ambition of achieving growth of 200 percent in the marine segment across the next five years. The firm, a specialist in the development and supply of advanced drive train solutions, said it will leverage Parpala’s vast experience and contact book, to push its ability to deliver enhanced efficiency, cost savings and environmental performance to the shipping industry worldwide.
Japan’s KCS Orders New Cable Lay Vessel
A keel laying ceremony held on September 7, 2017 at Colombo Dockyard PLC in Sri Lanka signaled the start of construction on a new cable lay vessel for Japanese owner Kokusai Cable Ship Co. Ltd (KCS). Vard Design secured the ship design contract with builder Colombo Dockyard for KCS’s newest vessel, a VARD 9 01 design tailor-made for installation and repair of subsea telecom cables, with a high capacity below-deck cable carousel.
Netherlands to Receive LNG from Sabine Pass Plant
The Netherlands will receive its second-ever liquefied natural gas (LNG) shipment from Cheniere Energy's Sabine Pass export facility in the United States on Oct. 6, according to shipping data.
