Tropical Storm Cindy is likely to hit the Gulf Coast near the Texas-Louisiana border on Wednesday night, threatening to bring flash floods from Texas to Florida, according to the National Hurricane Center. Great Lakes Shipyard said it was awarded a contract for drydocking and repairs by Geo Gradel & Co. for tug George Gradel and barge Moby Dick. The U.S. Navy’s 10th Littoral Combat Ship (LCS) USS Gabrielle Giffords was commissioned at the Port of Galveston, Texas, on Saturday, June 10, becoming the 16th ship to be named for a woman and only the 13th ship to be named for a living person since 1850. NORDEN Adds Another MR Tanker
Denmark based NORDEN said it has purchased a seven-year-old Japanese-built MR product tanker, its second vessel acquisition within a month. The purchase follows the acquisition of a 2009-built MR product tanker to be named Nord Pearl. “With the purchase of the MR product tanker, NORDEN once again takes advantage of the current reduced tonnage prices to increase the capacity and position the tanker business towards possible market improvements after 2017,” said NORDEN CEO, Jan Rindbo.
Combi Lift Orders 19 Vessels from Damen
Damen Shipyards Group said it has secured an order with German heavy lift company Combi Lift to build a total of 19 specially customized shallow draught vessels. The vessels will be used to transport oversized and heavy lift cargo for the Gazprom Amur Gas Processing Plant Project in the Russian Far East.
