A launching ceremony for the partly outfitted fishing trawler M/V Voyager took place February 21 at Newbuilding Division of Nauta Shiprepair Yard in GdaĹsk, Poland. It will be one of the most powerful fishing vessels in its class. Voyager is 86.4 m long and 17.8 m wide. The loading capacity is more than 3,200 cubic meters. The trawler will be fishing in the North Atlantic, the area known for its challenging weather.

Cammell Laird Launches Claire House Charity Kite Boat

Merseyside shipyard and engineering company Cammell Laird held a special ceremony to launch a unique kite boat designed to raise funds for charity Claire House Childrenâs Hospice. The âCL Challengerâ was designed by retired shipyard naval architect Bill Owen incorporating a kite as the main power source to propel the vessel. The eco-friendly vessel also generates electric power for radio, lights and GPS through batteries charged via solar panel.
ABS Issues First Cyber Safety Notation

ABS said it has issued its first notation for the ABS Guide for Cybersecurity Implementation for the marine and offshore Industries. âThe focus on cyber safety is increasing, and that is changing the expectations industry has for classification services,â explained ABS Chairman, President and CEO, Christopher J. The ABS CyberSafety program is aimed at mitigating the risk of cybersecurity-related conditions or incidents that could negatively affect operations.
McDermott Acquires New Pipelay and Construction Vessel

McDermott International, Inc. announced it has acquired the newly built pipelay and construction vessel Amazon to better position the company for ultradeepwater and SURF projects. McDermott plans to upgrade the vessel to address the ultradeepwater market with a state-of-the-art J-lay system outfitted with the latest vessel technology. In the near term, the company plans to make minor capital expenditure investments to bring the vessel up to company standards.
