Viega Debuts ProPress Zero Lead Ball Valves
Viega has introduced its line of Viega ProPress Zero Lead Ball Valve press x hose thread for copper fittings. The bronze ball valves are full port and designed for potable water applications. The ball valves are available in 1/2" and 3/4" press sizes and 3/4" hose sizes. Other features include a lockable metal handle, stainless steel ball and EPDM sealing element. The Viega ProPress for copper system is available in more than 600 fitting configurations, in sizes ranging from 1/2" to 4".
First US-built Rotortug Enters Service
The first U.S.-built Rotortug, ART Trident, has undergone trials and is now in service. Designed by Robert Allan Ltd., and designated as an ART 80-98US, she was built by Master Boat Builders in Bayou La Batre, Ala., and is the first in a series of three being constructed for Seabulk Towing of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. The ART (Advanced Rotortug) designation applies to Robert Allan Ltd. designed tugs featuring the triple Z-drive configuration, originally conceived and developed by Rotortug (KST) B.V.
NTSB Reports on Safety Risks in Shared Waterways
The National Transportation Safety Board issued a report Thursday identifying the risks associated with the shared use of America’s Marine Transportation System by recreational and commercial vessels. The growth of both commercial and recreational vessel traffic during the last several decades is a significant risk factor. The number of canoers, kayakers and standup paddleboarders increased by nearly 22 percent between 2008 and 2014.

Tugboat Spills Oil in Halifax River
The U.S. Coast Guard is conducted a first-light assessment survey Thursday of a tugboat oil spill on the Halifax River near Ormond-by-the-Sea. The tug Tutahaca was reported to be leaking bilge oil into the river Wednesday. A Coast Guard Air Station Savannah MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew was directed to launch to conduct an overflight assessment survey of the river. Marine Environmental Response and Sea Tow arrived on scene with the tugboat at approximately 11 p.m.
