First Commercial Cruise Will Sail Canada's Northwest Passage
The first commercial cruise ship to sail through Canada's Northwest Passage was set to depart on Tuesday, part of a growing Arctic tourism industry spurred by rising temperatures and receding ice. The ship Crystal Serenity was to depart from Anchorage, Alaska, and cut through frigid northern waters before reaching New York in one month, according to a schedule from its American operator, Crystal Cruises.
Yamal LNG Project Received €780 Mln in Chinese Loans in July
The Novatek-led Yamal LNG project in Russia received financing in July worth about 780 million euros from China Development Bank and Export-Import Bank of China, according to Yamal's accounting report published on Tuesday. The 15-year loan deals, of 9.3 billion euros and 9.8 billion yuan ($1.48 billion), were signed by the two Chinese financial institutions in late April. The latest disbursement follows the first chunk of 450 million euros Yamal received in late July.

Northwest Seaport Alliance Extends Peak Season Gate Hours
The Northwest Seaport Alliance said it will reimburse up to $2 million to extend gate hours at its international container terminals during peak season. With a 3 to 5 percent increase in cargo volume forecasted during peak season, which will start in late August and continue through early November, the alliance proposes to help the marine terminal operators avoid congestion on surface streets in the port industrial area and keep import and export cargo flowing efficiently.

New Gyro Compass to Debut at SMM
German navigation system manufacturer Raytheon Anschütz said it will launch a new gyro compass at this year’s SMM exhibition in Hamburg. The new gyro, Standard 30 MF, is the latest of the renowned “Standard” series of Anschütz gyro compasses. Standard 30 MF is the second generation of maintenance-free gyro compasses from Raytheon Anschütz. It provides highly accurate heading, rate-of-turn, roll and pitch information, the manufacturer said.

1822 - USS Grampus investigates and pursues a brig flying Spanish colors. When called upon to surrender, the privateer brig Palmyra from Puerto Rico fires cannon and musket fire. USS Grampus fires back on Palmyras broadsides reducing Palmyras rigging to a complete wreck, killing one and wounding six. The brig surrenders with a crew of 88, one long 18-pounder gun and eight 18-pound carronades. Her officers acknowledge they had robbed the American schooner USS Coquette.
Port of Hamburg Seaborne Cargo Down Slightly in 2016
First-half seaborne cargo throughput of 70.2 million tons reflected stabilization of the trend for the Port of Hamburg. At the same time, a steep increase occurred in freight transport by rail to/from the Port of Hamburg.
