German Banks Count Cost of Global Shipping Crisis
German banks are struggling to recoup tens of billions of dollars of loans as a global shipping industry slump hits them hard. The lenders - among the biggest backers of shipowners over the past 20 years - are behind up to a quarter of the world's $400 billion of outstanding shipping loans, three shipping financiers told Reuters. This would make them collectively more exposed than banks from any other single country in terms of outstanding debt to the sector.

Long Beach Exports Up, Overall Volumes Down
August exports surged 14.8 percent through the Port of Long Beach compared to the same month in 2015, but lower imports drove overall volumes down, the port reported. Harbor terminals moved 641,029 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEU) in August, an 8.9 percent year-over-year decrease. Of those, 321,625 TEU were import containers, which were down 10.2 percent. Exports numbered 159,247 TEU. Empties accounted for 160,157 containers, 22.5 percent fewer than August 2015.

IMOIIMAX Tanker Stena Immortal Delivered
The Stena Immortal was delivered yesterday from the Chinese shipyard GSI (Guangzhou Shipbuilding International) in southeast China. The vessel is jointly owned on a 50-50 basis by Stena Bulk and Indonesian Golden Agri Resources (GAR) and is the eighth of a total of 13 IMOIIMAX tankers ordered by Stena Bulk in 2012. She will be operated by Stena Weco and will sail in the companyās global logistics system, which currently employs about 60 vessels.

The simulator was custom built for training lifeboat coxswains onboard the Safe Zephyrus, one of Prosafeās newest accommodation rigs.
