Hapag-Lloyd Names First of Five 10,500 TEU Box Ships
Hapag-Lloyd held a naming ceremony for the first of its five new vessels in its new 10,500 TEU class containerships, Valparaíso Express. Valparaíso Express was named by Rozío Gonzaléz – wife of Andrónico Luksic, Chairman of the Board of the Quiñenco Group – who performed the ceremony at the Terminal Pacifico Sur (TPS) in the port of Valparaíso, where the new ship will call regularly going forward.
Dry Bulk Owners Say the Worst is Over
The worst is over for the dry bulk shipping sector, after years when too many ships chased too little cargo, yet the extent of the lost business means a full recovery is still some way off, leading ship owners said on Wednesday. Dry bulk shipping, which transports commodities including coal, iron ore and grain, has been among the worst performing shipping segments in recent years, partly due to worries over the health of top industrial goods importer China.

Troll Solution Wreck Removal Completed
A stricken jack-up has been removed from the Mexican seabed in close proximity to a well head platform, making for the largest wreck removal project completed in 2016. Weighing approximately 7,000 tons, the jack-up Troll Solution, contracted to operate in Pemex's Abkatun-Pol-Chuc shallow water oil field, experienced a debilitating accident while carrying out maintenance work on the wellhead platform CAAN-A in May 2015.
Consolidated Container Fleets Worth $33.4 Billion
Following the sale of Hamburg Süd to Maerskfor $4 billion, VesslesValue senior analyst William Bennett has compiled a report on the top consolidated container fleets. Currently these top five fleets are worth $33.4 billion and account for 33 percent of the entire container fleet. Maersk have confirmed rumors that they will acquire German container shipping line Hamburg Süd. Hamburg Süd’s strong position in north-south trades will complement Maersk's current business.

GE Gas Turbines to Power Indian Stealth Frigate
GE’s Marine Solutions announced that its LM2500 marine gas turbines will power the Indian Navy’s P17A stealth frigate. The LM2500 gas turbines will be provided by Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) Industrial and Marine Gas Turbine division, Bangalore, India under license from GE. HAL will assemble and test the LM2500 gas turbines prior to installation; HAL is licensed by GE to do so for Indian Navy LM2500 propulsion applications.
Refining Capacity Growth to Exceed Demand Until 2020 -Forecast
