Evac Systems Ordered for ‘Global Class’ Cruise Ships
German shipyard MV WERFTEN, a wholly owned subsidiary of Genting Hong Kong, said it will install the Evac Complete Cleantech Solution on board two new Global Class ships for Asia-Pacific cruise line Star Cruises. The contract also covers two optional cruise vessels of the same class in the future. Star Cruises’ Global Class vessels are specifically designed for the growing Asian market. Delivery of the two 201,000 GT vessels is scheduled for 2020 and 2021.
Tuco Delivers in Norway
Danish builder Tuco Marine said it has delivered a ProZero 10.5m WBW Archipelago multipurpose workboat to the Norwegian Archipelago Services. The vessel is a fast and light and features a hydraulic bow gate and a deck crane for handling cargo over the vessels side, according to the builder. From the flexible and unique ProZero construction the vessel is built with a flexible, hung cabin to ensure the best possible comfort in the wheelhouse.
Great Ships of 2016: Lindanger
Since it started publishing in 1939, Maritime Reporter & Engineering News has recognized excellence in ship construction. Launched at the Hyundai Mipo dockyard in Ulsan, South Korea, the newly built Lindanger has become the world’s first methanol fueled ocean-going vessel. The ship is the first of two dual-fueled 50,000 dwt tankers owned by Norwegian firm Westfal-Larsen that will be chartered to global marine transportation company Waterfront Shipping.
Fleet Growth Squeezes Crude Oil Tanker Market
From January 2014 - October 2016 the crude oil tanker segment composing of VLCC, suexmax and aframax ships, had a net-fleet growth of 7.3 percent, which is equal to 24.3 million (m) DWT. The VLCC segment, with 20.7m DWT or a net fleet growth rate of 11 percent took the lion’s share, followed by the suezmax segment with 4.4m DWT or 5.5 percent. Whereas the aframax segment decreased by -0.8m DWT or 1 percent, in relation to the fleet size of the specific ship segment.

Classification society the Korean Register (KR) has elected Lee Jeong-kie as its new Chairman and CEO. Lee assumes the role of Chairman and CEO, following the death of B. S. Park, who passed away after a short illness in October 2016. Lee has worked for KR for 29 years, most recently as executive vice president of KR’s survey division. He was elected at the extraordinary meeting of KR’s general assembly which oversees the running of KR and comprises 86 voting members.

Lifting and marine product specialist Rigmarine said it has recently supplied a bespoke winch system for a multinational oil and gas company, a key customer in the Caspian Sea region. The riser pull-in system comprises 38t and 12t winches, in addition to key components such as hydraulic power units, tensiometers and multiple sheave assemblies.
