Philippine Navy Orders 2 Frigates from Hyundai Heavy
Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI) has signed a contract to build two 2,600 ton frigates with the Department of National Defense, Republic of the Philippines. The frigates, scheduled to be delivered from 2020, will be a smaller light combatant and successor to the Incheon class frigate now in active service for ROKN, and tailored to the requirements of the Philippine Navy with an optimized range of good marine standards under rules from Lloyd Register.
Warner to Head Inmarsat Maritime Marketing
Inmarsat has appointed Mark Warner as Head of Marketing Communications for its Maritime business unit. Reporting to Inmarsat Chief Marketing Officer Chris McLaughlin, Warner will take responsibility for maritime marketing communications activities, with the objective of opening up the full potential of high-speed connectivity at sea across vertical markets including merchant shipping, small boat, fishing and leisure.
Rolls-Royce to Equip ECO’s New Tugs
Rolls-Royce has signed a contract with Edison Chouest Offshore (ECO) worth more than $41 million to deliver propulsion and deck machinery for 13 new tugs, including five which will have a direct bollard pull of around 150 metric tons. The 13 tugs are being designed and built at Chouest-affiliated shipyards in the U.S. with support from Damen’s Technical Cooperation program. Bumi Armada Berhad Names Its News FPSO
Bumi Armada Berhad, Malaysia-based international offshore energy facilities and services provider celebrated the naming ceremony of the Armada Olombendo Floating Production Storage and Offloading (FPSO) last weekend. Armada Olombendo FPSO represents Bumi Armada’s largest FPSO and it will operate in Angola on Block 15/06, East Hub, a wide area of 2,984 square-kilometer (km2) in the Angolan deep offshore, located approximately 350 km northwest of Luanda and 130 kilometer west of Soyo.

Steel Cut for CIMC ORIC's First FORAN Project
The steel cutting ceremony of the first project designed with the FORAN system by CIMC Ocean Engineering Design and Research Institute Co., Ltd. (CIM ORIC) was held in the Chinese shipyard Zhoushan Changhong International Shipyard Co., Ltd. on September 23. CIMC ORIC is a subsidiary company of the Group CIMC which is dedicated to research on ship design and marine equipment. CIMC ORIC implemented the FORAN system in December 2015.
